I've one day
until I see my father
One day
until I release this anger
It's been four years
since our last encounter
and four months
since his last letter
He hasn't been
much of a provider
He's let me down
more times than I can remember
I've one day
until I see my father
One day
and with luck not a minute longer
He'll say
"This life's proved you quite the fighter."
I'll retort
"This life's proved you quite the coward."
He'll express his sorrow
and his plans to make things better
I'll either give him another chance
or be reminded of the storm cloud
that follows him
and turn away and head for shelter.
