It was around 86* degrees outside, and for the date being the month of August, it was scorching hot outside.

The DX wasn't too active, only a couple of people hanging around while their car was getting fixed up by a couple of greasers.

Steve was underneth someone's not too shabby Ford, sweating his butt off and fixing up whatever was going wrong inside that machinery.  Soda was ringing up an appointment with another fellow grease by the check-in counter, both him and Steve happened to be acquainted with. Two-Bit should've been at his 4th period in school by now but he decided to skip the rest of the day, reasons unknown, it's Two-Bit what do you expect?

None of the three boys noticed three greaser girls had walked in, the fresh air conditioning blowing on their face and hair. And damn they did look too good for their own being.

They weren't happy, however.

They were the closest friends of Soda's girlfriend, Sandy. One of them immediately noticed Soda and made their way to him, not caring he was busy talking to someone.

"Soda."

"I'll be with you in a sec ma'am." Soda politely dismissed her, not even looking up from the appointment tabs they kept in a beat up thick notebook. The grease he was filling leaned up against the counter near Soda.

A beat went by. The girl trying to get his attention, almost desperately and concerned, kept glancing back at the grease, the notebook, Soda, her friends. She kept doing that in a repeated cycle as she nervously stood there waiting to talk to him.

"Soda..." She repeated, this time with more concern. "Could we talk in private?"

Soda finally looked up from the guy to her, one of Sandy's friends. His face turned down slightly noticing how anticipate she looked. He quickly jotted down the rest of what he was writing, he ripped out the piece of paper and gave it to the grease customer.

"See you later man" Soda spoke to him.

"See ya'..."

The greaser left without saying another word. After he left, Soda's gaze immediately darted to her.

"Is something wrong?" Soda asked with the same concern in his tone.

The other girls that was with her in particular walked up to him too, standing right next to their friend. Soda had this deep dread of emptiness in his stomach he couldn't comprehend, or understand why he was feeling it so suddenly. At least as of right now.

Silence went by for a couple of seconds, Susie, the girl who was speaking directly to Soda, looked like she was thinking really hard. Almost as if she was planning her next words carefully.

"It's....Sandy..." she started off, "Something kind of just happened with her."

Her eyes went everywhere else in the surrounding except for him.

"Sandy?...What happened? Is she okay? Is she hurt?" Soda questioned her as calmly as he physically could, but he still sounded at edge.

"Yes yes, she's fine. But she told me to tell you something, she didn't want to tell you herself."

Steve was secretly listening in to the conversation while his ratchets turned bolts underneth the car. Two-Bit wasn't even paying attention at all, he was eating.

"And what about it?" Soda asked wanting an answer already.

The three girls were standing there in front of the counter almost full of dread, especially the girl who was supposed to tell him. Her mouth opens as she's about to speak, but closes again, hesitant to tell him. She starts mouthing words to the other two girls.

"I feel bad for telling him..." she whispered.

"You have to tell him...."

"Tell me what?" Soda almost blurted out, leaning against the counter trying to hear them, "What's going on with Sandy?!"

"Sandy left to Florida."

The silence filled the air, Soda looked at those girls with confusion, unsure of what to think. Steve finally exited out from below the car after finishing the car. He grabbed a towel rag that was near his legs and wiped himself from any remaining sweat. Two-Bit was now curious about the conversation Soda and those girls were having.

"You mean it?" Soda made sure to confirm. "But...why? How come she didn't tell me this herself?"

The silence grew, thicker and heavier in seconds. And Soda's heart was starting to pound a bit more faster. Sandy's friends looked extremely guilty for the news they are about to bear him.

"She moved to Florida because she is with child, Soda."

That sentence brought the attention of both Steve and Two-Bit. They both were staring the sight that was unraveling in front of them, they looked at each other then back to the scene. It's almost like they read each other's mind.

Meanwhile Soda was practically shaken.

"Sandy....She's pregnant."

"She's now living with her grandparents. Her mother and father thought it was better to send her there than to have her marry 'some random 16-year-old'."  The Second girl spoken.

"I would've loved to marry her..." Soda muttered to himself in disbelief.

"No...No you wouldn't have." The Third girl who didn't speak at all said, until now, "The baby...isn't yours."

And with those four words, Soda's world, had shattered.
