Shadows, they loam near.
They threaten to devour all I have come to love.
I pull away in order to save those in my heart.
I grasp at falling feathers, trying desperately to find some sanity.
Will they let me save him?
Will they grant me my one wish?
Just like always, I find myself torn.
The scorn of those above me rests upon my shoulders.
The weight will soon crush me.
I cry out for release, begging to be saved.
The defeaning sound drowns out the world and I become lost in the darkness.
It has consumed me.
Will I ever be saved?
Will God ever release me from my eternal punishment?
I ask for answers but none come.
I pray for solace but God laughs at my turmoil.
I am his prey, weakened before him.
He has taken everything from me but still he asks for more.
He wishes a sacrifice but we are no longer children laid up for the slaughter.
We have become more human and thus we wish to live.
