2:37 am. That's what Bucky's clock says. He sighs, sitting up. He hasn't been able to sleep through the night since Steve left. Pushing himself up off the bed, he stumbles into the kitchen to get a glass of water. He doesn't even make it to the door before he breaks down sobbing. Every night. This happens every night. Bucky picks up his phone, fingers trembling. Dialing Sam's number, he takes a shaky breath. One ring. Two rings three. Four. "Bucky?" Sam's voice is tired, but worried. "You okay?" Bucky doesn't say anything. He doesn't know what to say. "Alright hang in there I'm on my way." Sam hangs up, leaving Bucky crumpled on the floor, eyes red and puffy.
Sams pov
He's been worried about Bucky. This has been happening more often. Sam grabs his keys, pulling on a sweatshirt and jeans. Closing the door quietly, he walks out to his car. It's a quiet night, early September so the leaves are just starting to change. Just around the corner from Bucky's place, he prepares himself for what he's going to walk into. Sam knocks on Bucky's door. Hearing nothing in response he uses his own key to open the door. "Aw Buck. Come here. It's okay I'm here." He crouches down to eye level with Bucky. Bucky looks up at him with watery eyes. "I'm sorry. You didn't need to come." Sam pulls him into a hug. "I'm not leaving you alone. I'm never going to leave you." To be honest, Sam was pretty upset with Steve for leaving them. Bucky especially. It had broken him so much. Sam was always willing to come over, but he wished he wasn't always so sad. He felt bad for Bucky, but that wasn't why he was doing this. Sam loves Bucky so much, and needs to prove to him that he won't leave like Steve did. "Come on, let's get you back to bed." Sam helps Bucky up, guiding him towards his bed. "M'sorry you had to come all this way." Bucky mumbles, sitting down. "Hey," Sam puts his hands on Bucky's shoulders, looking into his eyes. "Don't apologize. I'm always here, okay?" Bucky nods, letting himself sink into the mattress. "Do you want me to stay?" Sam asks, his hand on Bucky's. He nods. "Alright, move over and let's try to get some sleep." Bucky scooches over, Sam grabbing a pillow to put behind his head. Their breathing slows, both falling asleep within minutes.
The next day
Sam wakes up to sounds in the kitchen. "What did he do..." Sam laughs to himself, sitting up in bed. Bucky walks in, a huge smile on his face, holding a tray full of food. "I made breakfast! Felt bad about you having to come over, so I thought I'd make us something." "I really appreciate it, Bucky. This was sweet of you to do." Sam smiles, taking the tray. Bucky sits down on the bed and they start to eat. "You look adorable when you're asleep." Bucky says, looking at Sam pause with his mouth full. "Oh!" Sam coughs, fumbling for a napkin. "Here you go," Bucky hands him his napkin. "You okay?" "Yeah, yeah I'm good. Just uh, I wasn't expecting that." Sam looks up at Bucky. "You really think so?" Bucky nods shyly, looking down at his hands. They fall into a comfortable silence, each glancing up every few seconds while finishing their breakfast.
