Into the hole

Tomas Connery stood at the bridge of his ship. He looked around at some of the finest men Earths nations could offer. The might of the Terran Republic had truly become a great power. A large conglomerate of businesses had funded this expedition. Man had not left his solar system yet and they intended to jump to a whole new and possibly unkown Galaxy. With a technological advances that Henry Briggs had given the Terran Republic fleet inter-galactic travel seemed nearly possible.

All of this was possible thanks to the "Vanu" incident. An alien artifact had been found on a fragment of Plutos shattered remnants.

As Thomas looked up at one of the viewing screens he could see all 128 ships. 75,000 humans had signed on for the perilous journey into space. Thomas looked down at his navigations officer Jacob and spoke with a great posture "ETA till the rift opens?"

"ETA is t-minus 10 sir." Said Jacob looking up at Thomas. Thomas nodded and looked at his Communications officer Michael "Coms online?" he asked. Michael nodded "all clear, com buoys are steady and we have communications with Europa base"

Thomas nodded once more "Alright warm up the....." Suddenly the deck flashed red and the sirens went off. The ship rattled but the onboard VI said nothing. "Brace for entry!" Connery hollered in fear.

What most terrified him was that the only noise was the ship made. All it did was screech and rattle but what got him most was seeing the portal grow.

He could see a black sphere blotting out other stars and showing a distorted vision of other stars and gassy clouds.

Thomas watch as first fleet was pulled into the rift by the immense gravitational pull. He could even feel himself eeing tugged by its power.

"Second fleet engaging engines! Thrusting at 123%!" Hollered the Navigations officer.

Second fleet lurched to life and began its approach. Several of the ships entered before Thomas's. Then with a horrifying brilliance the ship fell into the sphere. The bridge went absolutely dark. Thomas tried to scream out to his comrades but nothing left his mouth.

Within seconds the moved throughout all of the known universe. He could see all types of stars and thought he saw another ship.

His body felt like it had been ripped apart by the immense gravity. On one of the dashboards he could see how many Gs the ship was experiencing. 22.5G, essentially 22 earths tugged on the ship. He could see the wormhole collapsing in behind him as well as a speed increase.

At the last possible second his ship lurched out of the other side. The ships thrusters activated again and pushed him 10 miles away from the rift.

As the sphere collapsed it spued out reminands of ships. Twisted wrecks of metal began to drift aimlessly. A few life pods spewed out as the rift finally collapsed.

"Dammit! Get those life pods and regroup the fleet. I need to know what's left!"
