I am really regretting my choices here. I thought it would be easy to get information about my parents, but they are really good at hiding everything. I've been searching for years now. I had to secure a good job, and for that, I completed my studies, which was very challenging. I worked as a cleaner and was bullied all through school. It's been hard, really hard. Once I finally completed my studies, I found a good job, and I'm finally getting settled.
It's been two years now since I started searching, and I have found nothing so far. I joined this agency and became a spy five years ago, and just finished my fifth mission. They said if I do two more missions successfully, they'll help me find my parents. Hence, I just have to keep working for six more months till I finally find something.
"Shit!" I said, I just burned my tongue with this black coffee. Why do I even like this?, I thought. Suddenly, there was a knock on my door "Hey, bro, I need to talk to you about something", said a voice "Come in", I replied. He's my only friend from school, and people knew him as 'the quiet kid', but he was the smartest of us all. I mean, he is a Korean boy with glasses.
He opened the door and entered my office with his laptop, his silky black hair covering his forehead and reaching to his thin glasses. "So I was just thinking, don't come at me but you should probably get some therapy or something, don't get mad I'm just looking out for you bro" he said "Matt I swear if you weren't my only friend you would've been dead by now" I said jokingly "hey I told you I'm just looking out for you, it's your choice obviously" he replied. I mean, he is kinda right cuz I've been through some Shit, but honestly, I don't need any of that "bro, whatever, is there anything else you need to tell me, something important?" I asked, "nah, that's it, I'll get going now", he said as he left.
I thought about it for a while, went through some research, "Wait, why do I even care? Whatever, I'm done". I closed my laptop, sorted out my papers and got out of my office. I went out of the building and on the street, it was night already, the black sky a vast space, the building busting with lights, it hurt my head. As I went towards my car, I pulled open the door and headed home.
As soon as I reached, I plopped into bed "Should I really get therapy?" I asked myself. Maybe if I did, I could finally start living a normal life, as I was thinking I got up and passed by the mirror, wait, I took a few steps back, and stared at my reflection. Was I looking that bad? Now I need a new haircut...my light brown hair had grown too much; it reached my shoulders, and I looked hideous. I was looking at my hair, and I also noticed my beard is growing well. I'll get a fresh cut tomorrow.
I changed from my light grey suit to my PJs and lay in bed, taking the cover over myself. I don't know what came over me, but I opened my phone and searched for therapists in New York. As I scrolled, this one clinic really caught my eye, "Hmm, firefly clinic, let's see what you got," I said. It looks nice to me, but it's not my concern right now. I put my phone aside after about 20 minutes and drifted into a deep sleep.
Bang bang bang, gun shots, blood, blood and more blood, a scream "Noooo!" I'm in my car, a crash, shattered glass all over me, my sight is blurred, blood again, I hear a police car. No, an ambulance, my head is spinning, I-I- I can't breathe...
I woke up startled. I get these nightmares often. It's been 3 years since I had an accident, my car crashed into a tree, and I hit my head so hard on the steering wheel that the trauma I had right after the mission was wiped away. I don't remember anything from that mission, and my boss said it was better that way.
I got up to drink some water, I opened the fridge, and the light hit my eyes "Ugh, my head hurts", I groaned as I took the water bottle out. I opened the kitchen drawer and took out the bottle of pills, which help me stay calm. I swallowed two of the pills, gulped down some cold water, and went back to bed. "Great, now I can't sleep", I said, frustrated. Well, time to get up.
