The lake shimmered with the dull glow of sunset, but there was no beauty in it — only a faint reflection of the half-rotted dock jutting out into the water. The camp was still. Too still. The air smelled of pine, mildew, and something faintly metallic.

Y/N tugged her orange intern shirt down, the fabric stiff against her skin. It wasn't a uniform. It was a prison suit.

"Cheer up, sis." Derek's voice broke the silence like a crow cawing. He strode across the clearing with that smug grin plastered on his pale face, his hands stuffed in his pockets as if he owned the forest itself. "You're about to witness history. Season One, baby."

Y/N narrowed her eyes. "You mean you're about to traumatize fourteen people on live camera. Again."

Behind him, Trevor jogged over, tripping slightly on the uneven dirt. "Oh, come on, Y/N," he said, tone softer, almost pleading. "It's not that bad. Think of it as... summer camp with a little extra spice!"

"Spice?" Y/N folded her arms. "You nearly got three interns killed testing last week's challenge. And dont even get me started on what you guys have been doing in the wo-" Derek covers her mouth quickly, shushing her

Trevor flinched, guilt flickering in his eyes. Derek, on the other hand, chuckled.

"That's the fun of it. Danger sells." He leaned closer, lowering his voice. "And you're not going anywhere, so you'd better get used to it."

Her stomach turned. She knew what he meant. The reason she was here wasn't to "help" with production. It was to keep her silent. About what she'd seen. About what Derek was planning with Jensen in the shadows, what Trevor pretended not to be a part of. If she ran, if she spoke, Derek promised she'd regret it.

A heavy thud echoed across the camp. Jensen appeared from behind one of the cabins, dragging a crate as if it weighed nothing. His scarred face caught the light, his cyan eyes narrowing when they landed on Y/N. For a moment, she thought he might say something. But he didn't. He just moved the crate onto the dock, muscles tensing like iron cables, then walked past without a word.

Y/N exhaled shakily. The ground beneath her boots felt like quicksand.

"Tomorrow's the big day." Derek clapped his hands together, gleeful. "Fourteen unsuspecting suckers rolling in for the best or worst summer of their lives. And you, little sis..." He poked her in the chest, hard enough to sting. "...are going to make sure they don't suspect a thing."

Trevor tried to soften it with a smile. "Just, uh... keep an eye on them. Make sure nobody gets hurt too badly. You're good at that."

Y/N's gaze shifted out toward the lake again. The water was black now, swallowing the last bits of light. She thought of the campers on their way here, oblivious to the storm waiting for them.

She whispered, mostly to herself, "Welcome to hell."
