You and your mom have been in a financial situation for a few years now since your dad left, but your aunt let you move in until you guys are financially stable. Not just living with your aunt, you live with your uncle and two cousins. Your cousin, Zach, who is about a year older than you, is closer to you than his older brother, Gavin, who is 3 years older than you. Every day once you get back from school, you usually go play video games with them after you do homework, and this day shouldn't be any different... right?
You walk into the cold house and take off your shoes. While kicking your shoes to the shoe rack, you notice a new, different pair of shoes in YOUR spot. You think to yourself, did Zach or Gavin get new shoes? You try not to think about it, but the question remains in your mind, whose shoes ARE those?
You walk into the living room and flop on the white -now beige- food-stained couch, opening your blue Puma backpack to grab the math homework. Stupid homework.. you think to yourself. Nobody likes homework, but the multiplication on your paper taunts your stupidity. It's basic review, but at a middle school level and thinking simple multiplication is hard? This is sad. You grab a 0.7 leaded mechanical pencil, and start writing.
You finish it in about 5 or so minutes, maybe having a positive mindset does have an impact. Your hand hurts from writing so much, but at least the homework is done. You pick up your phone and open the calculator app, checking your answers. After that, you grab your dark blue constellation folder and slide your completed math homework inside, then closing it and aggressively shoving it into your messy backpack. Now it's time to play video games with your cousins! You stand up and run upstairs to say hi to your cousins.
The carpeted stairs feel much nicer under your feet than your shoes on school carpeting. While walking, your mind drifts to the unknown shoes at the shoe rack, wondering who own the shoes. As you reach the top of the stairs, you hear an unfamiliar voice coming from your cousins' room, a guy definitely. You wonder. Is Zach on a Discord call with a new friend? You brush it off again, going to the bathroom before you play with your cousins.
You do your business, and head to your room to grab your tablet. As you're walking to your cousins' room, the voice seems... louder? Weird. That's unusual, obviously. Since when do you hear a voice on a call get louder? Now that you think of it... your cousins NEVER WEARS HEADPHONES.
You slide down and sit down, starting to panic outside their door. A guy? In our house?! WHO IS IT?!
You try to rationalize with yourself. Maybe it's someone from school? You relax, knowing that possibility is more likely than a random stranger in the house.
You take a deep breath to calm down. You stand up and reach for the doorknob, but hesitate. What if he's mean?
Sighing, you decide to open the door.
