Chapter One: The Summer ItAll Began
You were fifteen, barefoot on the cool tiled floor of your cousin's room, hairbrush clenched in your hand like it was the microphone of a world-class concert.
Taylor Swift's Love Story blasted from the tiny speaker docked into your cousin's iPod Touch, and you sang with every ounce of conviction you had. You twirled, dramatic, pointing at your reflection in the mirror as though it were a screaming stadium crowd.
"Romeo, take me somewhere we can be alone..."
You dragged out the words, half on-key, half a squeal of joy, dancing in circles. The comb pressed to your lips became everything: a stage, a spotlight, a dream.
And then—
A cough.
Your body froze. The music blared on, mocking your silence.
Slowly, you turned toward the doorway.
There he was. Taller than you remembered, leaning against the doorframe with his arms crossed, a crooked smile tugging at his lips. Your cousin's friend. The boy you had spent months pretending not to stare at whenever he came around.
"Don't stop on my account," he said, voice teasing but warm. "You were just getting to the good part."
Heat shot up your neck, flooding your cheeks. "You—you weren't supposed to be here!" you blurted, clutching the comb like a weapon.
He chuckled, stepping into the room. "What, and miss your concert? No way. You've got serious stage presence."
You wanted the ground to swallow you whole. "It wasn't a concert. I was just—"
"—singing to a sold-out crowd," he finished, grinning. "You even had choreography."
You rolled your eyes, turning back to the mirror, desperate to hide your blush. "You're so annoying."
But then—his reflection appeared behind yours, standing close enough that you caught his scent, something faintly like soap and summer rain. His eyes met yours in the glass.
"Don't be embarrassed," he said softly, sincerity replacing the teasing. "You're... really good. I mean it."
Your heart skipped, stuttered, then raced. You laughed nervously, brushing a strand of hair behind your ear. "You're just saying that."
"No," he said, voice steady. "You have no idea how... unforgettable you are right now."
Something in the way he said it made your breath catch.
You gripped the comb tighter, your reflection trembling in the mirror.
And just like that, you knew: this moment, this boy, this song—would never leave you.
