It starts when they decide to take a weekend off, and go up to stay at John's boss's cabin in the woods, which he loans out on occasion to promising young mechanics. It's great to get a break. And Dean adores the lake and the woods, running around like the crazy little monster he is, doing his best to get killed within an hour or so of arrival. (Almost drowning is surely a little excessive. Although as he points out to Mary, "But I can almost swim, Mom! I've been watching Aquaman for three weeks now!"
