Saturday - 5 days until the weekend

It was Saturday evening and Dorinda finally had the house to herself. Greg just left the house 12 minutes ago to meet with the other men at the church for a men's night out at the bowling alley. So here she was in her comfort zone. A bottle of Don Julio, a book, and her headphones which were connected to her phone, playing Ziah's music on shuffle.

She had become accustomed to the type of music Ziah made. There was a variety to her music. Some of it was modern RnB, some were ballads, and some were like a neo-soul jazz club sound. That type was her favorite. She found herself harmonizing to Ziah's background vocals.

When the song finished, Dorinda opened her eyes. She was so caught up in the song, she had let it consume her. When she opened her eyes, she saw her daughter, Nikkia, staring at her. Dorinda jumped a little.

D: Girl you scared me!

N: I was knocking at the door but I guess you didn't hear me because of those headphones. I used my key. What were you listening to?

D: Um..Fred Hammond...yeah. Why are you here anyway?

Nikkia knew Fred didn't have one song that sounded like that.

But just as Nikkia was about to answer, she saw the bottle of Don Julio on the coffee table.

N: What the hell?

D: Since when do you cuss in my house little girl?

N: Since when do you drink?

Dorinda's gaze met where Nikkia's was. The big, unmissable bottle of DJ. Dorinda cussed in her head by getting caught but recovered.

D: Oh, girl please. It's just a little something to sip on. Don't act like you ain't never seen nobody drink before.

N: Yeah, but you don't drink, Mama. And... a whole bottle?

D: You always got something to say. It's my business. I work hard, I take care of this house so excuse me if I wanna unwind. One drink don't make me some kind of drunk.

N: I'm not saying you're a drunk. I just... I know you, Mama. You don't ever let nobody in, but if you did, I'd know what was eating at you before it got to this. That's how I know something's wrong, even if you won't tell me. Cause out of all things, whatever is wrong has got you...YOU drinking.

Dorinda scoffs and grabs her book.

D: Mhm. Anyway, you didn't come over here to lecture me. What is it you wanted, Nikkia?
