1999 – Space Colony ARK
Gerald stood in front of two capsules, his hands folded behind him.
“They are almost done,” he said softly. “I can’t wait for you to meet them.” He glanced at the little girl next to him.
“Me too, Grandfather. They look so peaceful. Are you sure we should wake them?” Maria asked.
“They do, don’t they?” He looked back at the capsules. “Yes, my dear. We’d have to wake them. We can’t keep them separated forever.”
“Okay, I understand. I can’t wait to see them!” Maria said excitedly.
Gerald chuckled and carefully opened the capsules. The first to emerge was Shadow.
“This is Shadow, the ultimate lifeform, the embodiment of Chaos energy,” Gerald explained.
“Hi Shadow! I’m Maria! Nice to meet you,” she said gently, crouching down to him.
“Hello, Maria. Nice to meet you,” Shadow replied, crossing his arms.
Serenity was the last to come out of the capsules.
“This is Serenity. She stabilizes Shadow and is the embodiment of empathy,” Gerald explained.
“Oh, so yin and yang?” Maria asked.
“Precisely,” Gerald continued. “They are made to balance each other.”
Maria crouched to Serenity. “Hello, Serenity. You’re very beautiful.”
Serenity blushed faintly, her tail flicking. “Really? You think so?” she said excitedly.
Maria nodded and giggled, smiling warmly.
Serenity looked at Shadow, her ears pinned back. “Hello, Shadow… I want to make a good first impression,” she said softly.
Shadow glanced at her and tilted his head slightly, a faint smirk forming. “You already made a good impression. Don’t worry.”
Serenity’s ears flicked, and a small smile spread across her face. “Really?”
“Really,” Shadow said, his eyes gleaming with a hint of mischief. Then, in a softer tone, he added, “But… I hope you’re ready. I don’t make things easy.”
Serenity’s tail swished nervously, then she straightened and puffed out her chest a little. “I don’t mind. I like a challenge.”
Shadow’s smirk widened. “Good. Because I won’t hold back.”
Maria chuckled softly. “You’ll learn a lot from each other,” she said warmly. “And you’ll need that balance, Serenity.”
Serenity tilted her head, curiosity sparkling in her eyes. “Balance?”
“Shadow is… well, let’s just say he has a lot of energy. Chaos energy,” Gerald explained. “You’re here to help stabilize him.”
Shadow crossed his arms, pretending to frown. “Stabilize me? That sounds boring.”
Serenity’s laugh was light and melodic, and she stepped a little closer. “Maybe. Or maybe it’ll be fun… trying to keep up with you.”
Shadow’s eyes narrowed playfully, and for the first time, a small, genuine grin spread across his face. “I like your confidence. Maybe you’re not so boring after all.”
Serenity’s ears twitched, and she gave a small nod. “And maybe you’re not as scary as you think you are.”
