You won't win again.

The battlefield was chaos. Rubble, smoke, screams, and flashes of light filled the air as the Avengers fought for the universe itself. Thanos was relentless, his forces overwhelming. The gauntlet shimmered with unbearable power, the stones glowing as if alive.

Bucky's eyes searched frantically through the dust and destruction until they found y/n-bloodied, bruised, but still standing. Still fighting. His chest clenched with both awe and terror. He'd already lost so much. He couldn't lose her too.

"Stay with me!" he shouted, sprinting to her side as he knocked back a charging Outrider with his vibranium arm.

"I'm not going anywhere," y/n panted, determination burning in her eyes as she looked at the gauntlet lying within reach. Thor, Tony, and Steve were down, struggling to get back up. Time was slipping away. If Thanos got the stones again, everything was finished.

Bucky saw it before she even moved. The way her gaze lingered on the gauntlet. The resolve in her stance. His blood ran cold.

"No," he growled, shaking his head, grabbing her wrist. "Don't even think about it."

"Bucky..." she whispered, her voice trembling but steady with resolve. "It has to be someone. And it can't be you."

"Y/n, I can't—" His throat tightened, his breath ragged. "I can't lose you. Not you. Not after everything."

Her hand came up to his cheek, gentle even as her fingers trembled. "You won't lose me. I'll always be with you. But this—this is how it ends. It has to."

Before he could stop her, she broke free, sprinting forward and slipping the gauntlet onto her hand. Power surged violently, her body trembling under the unbearable energy coursing through her veins. The air vibrated, sparks of cosmic light crackling around her form.

"Y/n!" Bucky screamed, lunging toward her, but Thor caught him, holding his arm with surprising gentleness despite the urgency.

His voice was low, almost breaking. "If you love her... let her finish this. Give her that honor." His eyes shone with grief, knowing too well the pain of loss.

The moment stretched into eternity. Thanos' face twisted in rage, reaching out as if he could somehow stop what was coming. But y/n looked only at Bucky. Her lips curved into the faintest, softest smile, even as the power burned through her.

Her voice was clear, defiant, and steady, carrying through the battlefield:
"You won't win again."

And then, with one snap, everything changed.

Thanos and his army disintegrated into dust, their cries fading into silence. The battlefield grew eerily quiet, the echoes of war replaced by the sound of Bucky's ragged breaths as he raced to her side.

The gauntlet clattered to the ground, smoke rising from it. Y/n collapsed, her body already weakened beyond saving.

"No, no, no..." Bucky knelt beside her, cradling her in his arms, tears streaking down his face. His metal hand, usually so cold, was trembling as it brushed hair from her face. "Stay with me, doll, please. Just hold on. We can fix this. We can—"

Her hand reached up weakly, pressing against his chest where his heart raced uncontrollably. Her touch grounded him, even in this impossible moment.

"Bucky..." Her voice was faint, fading. "You saved me. You saved me from the dark. From the pain. You gave me... love. You gave me... home."

Tears blurred his vision, his jaw clenching as his heart shattered into pieces. "Don't you dare thank me. You don't get to thank me—you're the reason I'm still here. You're the reason I can breathe again."

Her lips curved into the smallest smile, soft and full of love, even as her strength gave way. Her last breath was a whisper, fragile yet steady:

"You saved me, Bucky. Thank you."

And then she was gone.

Bucky's cry tore through the battlefield, raw and broken, shaking with pain. He pulled her closer, pressing his forehead to hers, his tears falling onto her skin. For once, the Winter Soldier wasn't a weapon, wasn't a soldier—he was just a man, shattered by the loss of the woman he loved.

Around them, the world celebrated survival, but Bucky felt only the weight of grief. He stayed there long after, refusing to let go, his heart anchored to the memory of her last smile, her last words, her sacrifice.

Because for the rest of his days, Bucky Barnes would carry her with him.
