"No. Course not. You knew what you wanted with your life. We wouldn't have made it long distance. So I understand. I was just emotional. I mean...you don't know this. But I had a ring. I was planning to propose."

"You're kidding."

"No. I had one. But I realize now that you did what was best for you. I have no hard feelings. You lived your best life already. You did exactly what you wanted."

She sighed. "I've truly missed you Cole."

"I've missed you too."

"It's really nice being back here." She said. "You been dating?"

"Ha! No. Not really. I mean there's a few first dates. But they don't ever go past the first date."

"Why not? You're charming."

"I'm awkward." I said. She smiled.

"I like that about you. You're still that teenage boy."

"You're the only one that likes that." I said.

"Well...I guess we both had bad luck in the love department." She said.

"Maybe." I said, hiding my smile.

"So you're telling me that you got everything stolen and you didn't realize for two weeks?"

She laughed. "Yes! The pick pocketing is insane! And I never drove anywhere so I didn't think about my license. And I just do tap to pay now. I had no idea."

I chuckled.

We were sitting in our spot. A little grove way out of town. We used to spend almost every night here.

Carmen had her head in my lap. Her feet were up. I was rested in the passenger seat now.

"It's kind of crazy that after this many years it feels like nothing has changed."

I ran my fingers through her hair, nodding.

"Yeah. I mean I feel like we've changed...but the friendship we had stayed the same."

I glanced at her. She was deep in thought.

"What's wrong?" I whispered.

"Mm. Nothing. I just..I felt really guilty for a long time leaving you. I don't know."

"Don't blame yourself. You asked me to come with. I said no. That's not on you."

"Yeah. But if I had known you were going to propose I would've stayed."

"Really?"

She chuckled, sitting up. "Really. I mean I have truly missed you."

I pulled her in. She relaxed as she always did. Her body would release all the tension that was built up.

"I really like the beard." She whispered. I smiled.

"Yeah?"

She moved to look at me. Her eyes were on my lips.

"Wanna go like old times?"
