The hallway was still buzzing from the shock of the reunions, but Mari barely made it three steps into the building before two very different voices cut through the noise.
“Mari…”
Izuku’s voice cracked on her name.
He was standing a few feet away, eyes already glassy. The moment her gaze met his, the tears started falling, his fists clenching at his sides like he didn’t know if he wanted to run to her or yell.
Behind him, Bakugou’s expression was pure storm.
It wasn’t the usual sharp, explosive anger—it was something heavier, older.
“It’s been months,” he said, his voice low but dangerous.
“No call. No message. No—anything. You just… vanished.”
Mari opened her mouth to speak, but Bakugou stepped forward, cutting her off.
“You did this before. When we were kids.” His jaw tightened, eyes locked on hers with a rawness that burned. “One day you were there, and the next—you were gone.”
Izuku’s shoulders shook. “We didn’t even get to say goodbye. That night before you left… it—it meant something to me.”
Bakugou’s voice sharpened, but it cracked under the weight of something unspoken.
“It meant something to me too. We connected. And then you left. Again. Without saying a damn thing.”
The hallway went silent. Even the CO stopped moving, his sharp eyes flicking between them, the tension thick enough to choke on.
Mari’s lips parted, her chest tightening with every word, every bit of hurt she saw etched into their faces.
They weren’t angry because she’d been gone.
They were angry because she’d taken pieces of them with her—and never given them back.
