Daisy-Jade could see the reasoning of that. She knew that their families were tight-knit, that they were inseparable in the summer, and they had a lot of history. But honestly, as immature as she hates to admit, DJ was pissed he couldn't do it.
"Daisy, I can't..."
"I know!" She snapped, "But what the fuck am I to do? Just watch and take it? Be okay with her trying to kiss my boyfriend? What's worse is that you're defending her!"
"How am I defending her?!"
"You made me think I was fucking crazy for thinking she liked you. You made me think it was impossible for her to like you back. And now you're making me feel like I'm the insane one asking you to stop considering her feelings and think about our relationship."
"All I've done is think about our relationship!" He argued, "I made Belly cry over it, I defended you. I did what I thought was right."
"No, what you're doing is enabling her to think she can get away with shit by just crying her eyes out in front of you!"
"And what you're doing is making me pick between you or my family!"
"Belly isn't your family!"
"She is to me!"
And that's when everything stopped, a pin could drop and it could echo. The Monroe knew that if this went on, they would both say things they would regret and not recover. She never had Conrad argue with her, not like this. A few hours ago, it felt like a foreign concept that Conrad Fisher could not be on her side, that he was releasing everything he had been holding onto her.
With a nod, she grabbed the bag and threw it over her shoulder, but Conrad quickly stopped the bag from hitting her shoulder. "Where are you going?"
"Away," Daisy states, "I'll figure it out. I can't be here."
"Baby——" He tried to hold her face to get her to listen, but she jerked back.
A violent jerk that made Conrad feel a knife twisting in his stomach. He frowns, "I can't let you leave like that. It's dark, people are drunk and stupid. You're not going anywhere tonight."
"Then what the fuck do you expect me to do?" Daisy pleaded, tears starting to fall.
Conrad felt his body go ridged in seeing her like this. It felt cruel that he was the one to do that, to push her over the edge to make her start crying.
Daisy-Jade felt like a cornered dog. Afraid, frustrated, and alone. She couldn't stay in this house knowing Belly was here, she couldn't leave the house because knowing her luck, a car would hit her (which seemed like a pleasing deal). Daisy wanted Conrad to leave her alone and never see him again, but at the same time, she wanted his arms around her to comfort her, to feel safe.
Conrad had the instinct to hold her, to wipe the tears away, but it took all his might not to. He thought she needed space, to be on her own and think, just like him.
But that couldn't be further from the truth.
"Listen, you can sleep in my room and I'll sleep on the couch tonight," He offered, "Is that okay?"
With a gulp, Daisy nodded, then watched him take the bag from her and set it on the ground. The Fisher didn't know if it was best just to leave or talk it out. Daisy seemed tired but not as angry as she was a few minutes ago, she crossed her arms over her chest as she looked to him for an answer.
