"Jesus Christ, Belly," He snapped, "Just grow up! She's not the problem here, you are. You've been weird towards her because you can't stand sharing Cousins with someone. You're jealous."
If words could kill...
Belly looked defeated, as if he punched her in the face. To her, it felt like a punch to the gut, like he ripped her heart out and threw it away. She sat down on the bench, letting her hair cover her face as she just cried.
Honestly, he had gotten so fed up, he couldn't tell if what he said was even true. He knew he was being too harsh. He knew better than to just get angry at her, because he knew out would make Belly just bust out in tears.
Quickly, he bent down and put his hands on her shoulders, whispering to her, "I'm sorry, Belly. I shouldn't have done that."
To Belly, looking at Conrad with her watery eyes, he looked beautiful. The Christmas lights on the dock of red, white, and blue made him look iridescent. Especially with the fireworks that reflected in his eyes, it was like a scene from a movie, where you shout at someone to make the first move.
And she wanted to make the first move.
Belly Conklin began to lean her head toward him, her eyes shifting to his lips and back at him. Not even noticing Conrad's head pulling away with furrowed brows.
As the girl's hands made contact with his shirt, a firework zoomed past them.
The two broke apart and looked to where it came from. There stood Jeremiah Fisher, holding the end of the firework stick, and Daisy-Jade, gripping her camera.
Immediately, DJ turned around and ran inside, having Conrad leave Belly on the dock and go to his girlfriend.
This felt like a bad dream, a prank of some kind. DJ felt nauseous just thinking about what she watched, how Belly was looking at him, and how he did absolutely nothing about it.
Conrad rushed to his bedroom, to find Daisy-Jade packing her stuff in a hurry. Her tears were threatening to fall, as she was biting her cheek to focus.
"Daisy, it's not what it looked like."
"Are you fucking kidding me?" She exclaimed, "What the hell was that? What the fuck were you thinking?!"
"Nothing happened," He desperately assured, "Daisy, I'm being honest with you, nothing happened."
"Oh, really?" She slammed her clothes into a duffel bag. "I asked you to talk to her, to make her take a fucking hit and leave you alone, because you are in a relationship. And I find you kneeling in front of her, as she is trying to kiss you!" She begins shutting the zipper. "Yeah, no shit nothing happened. You didn't seem to be trying to tell me."
Her voice was low and direct, he could tell she was holding off on what she would like to say, and he didn't blame her.
"I did!" He defended, "I literally made her cry, I didn't mean to, but I did. I was trying to comfort her, I felt bad——"
"Why the fuck would you feel bad for a girl trying to ruin your relationship?"
"Because said 'girl' is family. I can't ditch her like she's nothing. Our families are friends, I can't just ice her out and ignore her, like she's a stranger."
