xiv ~ fireworks + arguments

Start from the beginning

"So... it's not for Belly?" He shakes his head. "Then why does she think it was for her?"

"I don't know," He shrugs, "I was just shocked that she found it, and then her thinking it was for her. I was going to tell her, I really did, but she left. You saw."

"Well, I could take a good guess, as to why." Daisy crossed her arms. "She likes you, Conrad. A lot. Like I said, since we've  been here."

The boy knew he couldn't fight back against it. He couldn't defend Belly or sweep it under the rug, like he had done before. Conrad didn't think Belly saw him like that anymore, maybe when they were younger, but now he had Daisy-Jade, that should've been enough to get her to stop.

"I know. I'm sorry I didn't believe you."

"You need to talk to her," She states, "Or I will."

Conrad knew that if his girlfriend were to talk to Belly, the conversation would end in tears or someone getting slapped. Even if he thought Belly didn't deserve that.

"I'll talk to her," He responds, "I'll get to the bottom of it."

The girl gave a small smile to him. "Thank you."

She hugged him once more and she felt better. Maybe not everything she wanted to say was said, but Daisy felt satisfied enough to believe what she had been stating from the beginning.

"Are you still down to watch the fireworks?" He asked.

"Yes!" She replies, "Just wait for me by the dock, I'm gonna get my camera."

She watched as Conrad left the room, hearing his footsteps go down the stairs. Daisy jumped out of her spot and pulled the box from her pocket, seeing it once more.

The girl felt bettering, knowing she didn't look inside; it didn't spoil his surprise yet.

CONRAD always saw Belly as the same little kid who wore glasses and braces, when she was awkward and wasn't exactly the most coordinated person to dance with. Liking her wasn't hard, Belly was just the type of person people naturally liked.

He knew she liked him in the past. It was obvious, everyone knew, including him. The only reason he never did anything about it was that he didn't want to ruin everything. The family would be different, Steven and Jeremiah would be different, and even Belly would be different.

And the little kid in him, back when Susannah was fighting cancer, couldn't handle different or change.

So, he made sure to throw those feelings away, and soon enough, his crush for her became nonexistent.

And now, he has Daisy-Jade Monroe.
The girl that he loved unconditionally, who got him to feel again. She handled him and his feelings with care and consideration, like it were the most treasured thing to her. He loved her for that, for making him feel that he was allowed to do what he thought best.

Conrad truly believed that Belly was over her crush. Once she saw them together, that it would all go away. He didn't think Belly would be a bigger issue than that.
