"Why'd you let her get so drunk?" Adam asked his son, "You're lucky she and your mom didn't get hurt."
She could see Conrad build a wall in his head, his body clenched out of Adam's words.
"I didn't know she was drinking that much," Her boyfriend tells.
"You're the oldest. You're supposed to look out for the younger kids."
DJ furrowed her brows at his words. Her hands clenched in a fist, cause she couldn't say a word.
It shouldn't be his responsibility to look out for everyone. He should be having fun with them, not babying them all just to make them happy.
Besides, Belly was 16 and grown enough to know what alcohol could do.
"I don't know why, but I thought I could talk to you."
As Conrad walked toward the door, DJ quickly made her way back to Conrad's room, throwing herself to sit on the bed. Soon enough, the Fisher boy walked in, giving her a sad smile.
"I'm sorry for keeping you waiting."
"It's fine," She said, "I left to go find you, but I saw you outside with her dad, so..."
Daisy wanted to come at him, guns blazing and ready to yell at each other. But he looked tired and absolutely in need of a hug. She didn't want to get in an argument with him after he just got scolded by his dad, she couldn't kick a man who's already down.
Swallowing her fire, Daisy made her way to him and wrapped her arms around his shoulders, guiding his head on her shoulder. Immediately, he wrapped his arms around her, enclosing her in on her as he rested his head on the crook of her neck.
It pained her to ignore the box in her pocket, but feeling his hands shake as he held her, feeling the tight knot in his throat that he tried to swallow down; Conrad outweighed it all.
"I'm sorry," He tells her, "I should've stopped Belly sooner, I know what she said hurt you. I'm sorry."
Daisy sighed, "I'm gonna ask you this once and I need you to be honest with me."
As he pulled his head out to look at her, she took a hand and put it to his cheek. "Do you have any feelings for Belly?"
"No," He denied, "I used to, years ago, but I stopped."
He never told her that.
Maybe it would be a ridiculous thing to tell someone, yes, but not when it's about the girl your girlfriend has been suspicious about.
"When did you stop?"
"Before you and I meet. Like, two years ago."
"Then why did you buy her a necklace?" She asked, "Obviously, it meant something to her. What did you get her?"
"It wasn't for her!" He stated, "It was for you."
Daisy frowned in confusion. "What?"
"It was supposed to be a surprise for your birthday."
The girl could feel some weight escape her chest. She rested her hand on her pocket, feeling the small box in her palm. She was holding her birthday gift in her pocket, and she almost looked at what Conrad got for her.
