After breakfast, Avery disappears into her room. She didn't say why or anything. I'm quite disappointed, to be honest. I need a partner in crime to pass the holidays with. I stay at the table for a while and watch everyone leave.

Xander and Max walk off, hand in hand. I have this feeling that them being together isn't a generally good idea: I can just see them gossiping about all the other residents. They suit each other though. Gigi leaves with little Hannah, followed by Nash and Libby. Grayson and Lyra - I have to mentally accustom to that, still - leave too, hands almost touching but not quite daring to hold each other yet. I am left at the table with Savannah, Gray's other half-sister and Gigi's twin.

She searches my face with her startling eyes. Her blonde hair - once long and braided - had been cut short during The Grandest Game. Her team - her and Rohan - had chosen to ask for a hint. I loved watching them pay for it, though. We forced them to play Truth or Dare.

You may think that Rohan dared Savannah to cut her hair, but no - in fact the opposite - Savannah dared him to do it. And oh! it got the reaction she wanted. I wasn't in the room at the time, but I could see the tension in the room. I'm surprised they're not together, but then again I'm not: Savannah isn't simple. And neither is Rohan, come to think of it.

"So... Grayson and Lyra?"

I almost jump, so deep in my thoughts that I forgot that the subject of my remembering sits right before me.

"Hmm..." I don't give her much of a reaction, but she knows that I struggle with it as much as she does. My head still pounds, pounds, pounds.

She is silent for a while. She is good at hiding her thoughts, but I am good at reading them. She stays calm, cool and collected while she gathers them.

And then she almost blurts: "Did you know?"

"I don't think anyone did." I sigh. "Including Grayson, probably," I add as an afterthought.

She almost, almost smiles. She's a block of ice, that one. Carved into perfection. Her twin is nothing like her, almost polar opposites actually.

I decide that this conversation isn't going to go anywhere (and am well aware of the fact that I share responsibility for that), so decide to get up. She nods at me as I pass her on my way to the door.

Only once in the Hall, I notice that I am still wearing yesterday's crumpled shirt and trousers. There is a lipstick stain on my collar. I smile at the thought of me acquiring that particular addition to this beautiful outfit. It also reminds me of who gave it to me - where is she?

Just then, I see her come down the stairs and rush outside, without so much as a sidewards glance at me. Um... excuse me? I follow her onto the driveway and see her almost run to the car. I see Alisa in the passenger seat: ha! That's why she's rushing. She looks fine as hell though - Avery, not Alisa. Although, no hate towards Alisa.

I step out onto the gravel and walk to the car. Crunch. Crunch. Crunch. Alisa notices me and frowns. I bet I know what she's thinking and yes, Alisa, yes you are right, I will keep you waiting. Avery, however, is stepping into the back of the Volvo on her socks with a pair of heels dangling around her neck.

I slide my hands around her lean waist and breathe in her perfume. She tilts her head up to mine and I smile. Inside, outside, I smile. I don't know how she does this, she kills me.

Brown eyes into my green ones. I feel her shiver under my strong hold. I laugh, and bend down to kiss her. Fireworks explode in my stomach. It feels so good...

"Uh hum."

I laugh into Avery's lips. She looks up like a startled rabbit and hastily gets into the car. I hold my head against the glass and mouth:

"Love you, Heiress."
