After Eight years, Ghenesis Santiago leaves for Atlanta, Ga to try having a relationship with her father and his new family. While having to maintain her senior year in highschool and working with her brother and his Crew under her father's orders...
His voice cracked just a little on that last part.
I felt like my heart shattered in my chest.
“No—no, Papa… it’s not like that,” I rushed out, reachin’ for his face. “That baby is yours. I swear to God. I just… I didn’t know how to say it. I been scared.” My voice shook, and I dropped my head. “Kendra had your DNA. I still don’t know how. She had it and was tryna get pregnant. I went to the same clinic for a check up and I thought i could stop it before it got approved, and the doctor assumed I was there for the IVF.”
His jaw clenched, but his eyes never left me.
“I was tryna fix it, and somehow… it happened. I was just tryna protect you.”
Zeus slid his hand under my chin, liftin’ my face until I had no choice but to look at him. He leaned in, kissed my lips slow, then moved to my stomach, restin’ his forehead against it.
“My wife honored me with a baby,” he whispered.
I laughed through my tears, chest heaving. “Yes… you gon’ be a daddy again,” I nodded, smilin’ wide even though I was still cryin’.
He kissed me again, deeper this time, his hand cradlin’ the back of my neck, the other still protectin’ my belly. Then he stood up, pulled me with him like I ain’t weigh nothin’, and helped me back to bed. I crawled in slow, muscles weak, and he followed right behind, slidin’ in close and wrappin’ his whole body around mine. His hand stayed on my belly, breath steadin’ against my shoulder.
“Papa?” I whispered after a minute of silence.
“Yes, mama,” he murmured, voice thick with peace now.
“I know you heard what I said about Kendra… and you chose to ignore it,” I said, turnin’ just enough to look back at him.
He smiled, one of them low, amused grins like he already knew where I was goin’.
“So I’ma say this one time… don’t touch that girl. I’m too damn pretty to be somebody’s prison wife. You hear me?”
Zeus laughed — a real, deep laugh from his chest. It felt like sunrise in the dark. He kissed the side of my face, then my shoulder, then the top of my head.
“I love you,” he said against my skin.
“I love you more,” I whispered.
And that’s how we fell asleep. Wrapped up in love. Wrapped up in peace. And for the first time in a long time… I didn’t dream of runnin’.
I dreamed of home.
