The next day
Locker clicked open and I leaned into it slow, tryin’ not to wince. Withdrawal was still tap-dancin’ in my bones, like every nerve in my body had its own set of problems. But even through the cold sweats and the dull-ass ache behind my eyes, all I could think about was her. It been a whole week — seven long, torturous-ass days — since I been inside Ghenesis. That shit felt like a sentence. A punishment. I was feenin’ for her like breath. And not just her body… but the peace she gave me. That soft laugh, them damn green eyes, the way her touch make all the noise in my head go quiet.
I slammed my binder shut and slid it in the locker. Ghenesis was a few steps down, talkin’ to Artemis’ daycare teacher on the phone. She had on these brown fitted jeans that gripped her ass like they was stitched on her body. I bit my bottom lip watchin’ her walk toward me, tuckin’ her curls behind her ear like she ain’t know she was the baddest woman on this campus.
I leaned against the lockers, arms folded. “Wanna hit the clubhouse?” I asked, real low and casual.
She blinked, lips partin’ into a small smile. “We got something to move? Need me to check inventory?”
I shook my head, grinnin’. “Nah, baby… ain't no business. Just thought it’d be better since it's tucked deep in the woods — you can scream as loud as you want while I’m drillin’ your shit.” I said it smooth, low, like a promise and a dare all at once.
She turned red so quick it made me smirk harder. Her laugh bubbled out, soft and bashful, eyes droppin’ before she nudged me. “You so damn nasty,” she whispered, tryna hide that grin.
“Only for you, peaches” I whispered back, slidin’ my hand down her lower back as we walked the hall. I was already plannin’ the way I was gon’ lay her across that mattress, the way I was gon’ hold her thighs wide and make her say my name ‘til the trees outside started echoing it.
But then… of course… drama came in the form of Kendra.
She popped up outta nowhere, grabbin’ my arm with them long ass glitter nails, tryna act like we was cool. Her fake ass smile slid right over Ghenesis like oil on water.
“Heyyy Zeus,” she sang. “Been wonderin’ where y’all been. Why y’all ain’t come to my kickback last month?”
I sighed hard, not even tryin’ to be polite. “We was busy,” I muttered, eyes already beggin’ her to get the fuck on. “Did you want something?”
Kendra tilted her head like a confused little puppy. “Well damn… I was just sayin’ maybe we could go out sometime. Just chill, vibe out. I miss you.”
I turned fully, steppin’ a little closer. “Miss what, exactly?” I asked, brows raised. “You miss that little quick fuck in your daddy’s car three years ago? ‘Cause that’s all it was. I don’t know how many times I gotta say it — it meant nothin’. You was just a nut. A memory I already forgot.”
Her face cracked. I saw it. The little tremble behind her bottom lip. But I ain’t done.
“I love you,” she blurted, desperate.
I deadass blinked. “Oh.”
I turned to Ghenesis, took her hand in mine like it was made for me, and said loud enough for the hallway to hear, “And I love my wife.”
