New’s POV

The night air in Itaewon was thick with noise neon signs buzzing, clubs pulsing, footsteps echoing in alleys that never slept. But New wasn’t listening. Not really.

He moved on instinct, dressed in black, blending into the shadows behind Krist. The target was a mid-tier broker who leaked sensitive information about their network to a rival mafia clan in Osaka. Simple hit. In and out. No mess.

But his mind wasn’t here.

It was with Tay.

The beach. The kiss. The regret. The memory of Tay’s hands on his skin and the ache in his chest when he ran away.

He didn’t notice the flicker of movement behind the dumpster.

Didn’t hear the safety click off.

Not until a shot rang out.

Krist reacted fast. He shoved New behind a crate and returned fire. Three clean shots. The target and his bodyguard dropped instantly.

"New!" Krist shouted, grabbing his shoulder. "You're bleeding. Shit. Stay with me."

The bullet had grazed New’s upper arm not life-threatening, but enough to knock him off balance.

Everything blurred.

---

New woke to sterile lights and the soft beep of a monitor.

White walls. Dim lamp.

And the face of Dr. Johan hovering over him.

“Welcome back,” the doctor said with a smile. “You’re lucky. Just a graze. Krist brought you in time.”

New blinked, trying to sit up. Pain flared through his shoulder.

Another man entered the room /Dr. Hill, expression cool but kind. “You’ll be fine in a few days. Just rest. We’ve increased sedation slightly. You need it.”

Krist was in the corner, watching silently. No teasing smirk, no snide comment. Just worry.

“I’m sorry,” New said, voice weak.

Krist stood, walked over, and brushed his hair back. “You were distracted. It happens. Just don’t let it get you killed.”

New looked away, heart heavy. “I keep seeing him.”

“I know.”

Tay’s POV

Back at the main estate hidden beneath a luxury hotel façade, Tay sat at the head of the long conference table, staring at the encrypted file projected on the wall.

Singto stood beside him, arms crossed.

“Chiang Mai’s cell just defected. The Osaka family bribed them. The Japanese want full control of Southeast Asia,” Singto said.

“They’re testing our leadership,” Tay muttered. “And they picked the wrong month.”

A top-ranking underboss entered, bowing slightly. “Boss Tay, they leaked some of our shipping routes. We lost a container last night in Busan.”

Tay clenched his jaw.

“Prepare retaliation. I’ll send a warning.”

“Yourself?” Singto asked.

Tay nodded. “It’s time they remember who they’re dealing with.”

As the meeting ended, Tay sat in silence. His mind, despite the chaos, drifted back to New.

Was he okay?

He didn’t deserve to be pulled into this world again. Tay had fought so hard to keep him away from it.

But maybe it was too late.

Singto, leaning back against the wall, watched Tay quietly. Then he spoke.

“Right now, no one can stand in your way. Not even this war. You are the leader of the most powerful mafia in the world, Tay. If you want him go get him.”

Tay looked up, stunned for a moment.

Singto gave a rare, soft smile. “And when you do... don't look back.”

---

New’s POV

That night, as Krist slept on the couch across the room, New stared at the ceiling.

Painkillers numbed the wound, but nothing could numb the ache inside.

He had run from Tay once. But fate wasn’t letting him escape this time.

He had to face him again.

Whether to end it… or to begin again.
