The audacity...
-----------------------------------------------
You started talking to him after that.
Not because you knew he was real—but because you felt something out there. Something kind, perhaps. Protective. Lonely.
You started leaving notes in signs outside your door:
> “Hope you’re doing okay out there, furnace fairy.”
“Thanks for the bread. Though why was it black and named Null_bread..? Weird but thanks”
“Are you watching me sleep? Not judging. Kinda flattering, actually. Just don’t tickle me.”
Null didn’t understand you. But he... liked you. Liked your voice. Liked how stupid you were in a way that wasn’t annoying. How unafraid.
Like a bunny who never learned how to be prey.
--------------------------------------------
The turning point came when you got cocky.
“Gonna go exploring!” you declared one morning, armed with your sword and two whole slices of bread. “Be back before sunset. Maybe I’ll find diamonds!”
Null trailed behind you like a ghost. Always unseen. Always close.
It should’ve been fine. But the biome beyond was corrupted. Twisted.
You wandered into it.
And that’s where you met it.
A thing with sharp angles that looked like wires. A broken player model with shifting limbs and no eyes.
It reached for you, letting out a soul-clenching scream. And for the first time—
—you screamed.
Not a long scream. Not cinematic. Just this shocked, scared noise as you fell backward into a patch of glitched terrain.
The thing lunged.
But Null was faster. The moment they collided, they both disappeared, and the creature's horrifying screeches finally died down, leaving you in silence.
You remained on the cold ground, eyes wide, face pale. It was hard to process. And even harder to decide which one of them died and which lived. Did they even fight?
Though that was quickly answered as he appeared silently a few blocks away. The same player with the pitch black skin — Null.
You stared.
And he stared back.
No armor. No shadow. Just him. Tall. Sharp. Too powerful. Too wrong for this world.
He waited for the fear to hit.
Waited for you to scream again. To run.
But instead, you blinked.
“…Are you the furnace guy?” you asked.
Null froze.
“...You look.. really cool.” Pause "...And dark"
------------------------------------------------
He teleported you back.
He didn’t say anything.
You woke up the next morning in your bed, a pie sitting on your furnace.
A perfect, golden, non-lethal pumpkin pie.
And a single sign outside your door.
> “Stay out of the Glitchlands.”
“Or I’ll eat you.”
You snorted.
“Aww. He cares.”
---------------------------------------------
Null watched from the trees, chest tight.
You weren’t scared of him.
You should’ve been.
But instead, you were rambling to signs like he was real.
Grinning every time your farm magically doubled overnight.
You were soft. Stupid. So fragile.
But somehow... his.
Not officially.
Not yet.
But soon.
Soon, he’d show you what it really meant to be protected.
