CHAPTER 1

It was just another normal day at the university. The place was full of noise, laughter, and the usual rush of students going about their day. Near the big glass doors at the entrance, close to the parking lot, a crowd had gathered, buzzing with tension.

In the middle of it, a boy was beating up another boy without any mercy. The kid on the ground looked like a nerd, glasses cracked, books scattered around him, trying to protect himself but failing. The other boy kept throwing punches, not holding back even a little, fists slamming into him over and over.

Some people in the crowd were actually cheering, hyped up by the fight, like it was entertainment. Others looked worried, wanting to break it up but too scared to step in. The air was hot and heavy, the sound of those punches cutting through the usual campus chatter.

Just then, a car pulled up through the university gates and parked. The man who stepped out of the car looked around, confused by the noise coming from the crowd. Curious, he walked closer, pushing through the people until he saw what was going on.

The scene hit him hard - one boy beating the life out of another, anger written all over his face. Without thinking, he ran in, grabbed the boy by the shoulders, and pulled him away from the kid on the ground. The crowd froze, everyone holding their breath as the violence finally stopped for a second.

The man who'd pulled the boy away from the fight looked straight at him, trying to keep his voice calm even though he was clearly shaken.

"What are you doing?" he demanded. "He's going to die if you keep hitting him like that. Why are you going this far?"

No one in the crowd spoke, the silence stretching tight and uneasy. The boy who'd been throwing the punches was still breathing hard, his fists shaking. For a second, anger was all over his face, but then something in him shifted. His shoulders dropped, and he went quiet. Without answering a single word, he turned and walked away from the scene, alone. There was no one with him, no friends following him - just his own heavy footsteps fading into the distance
The man who had stepped in glanced down at the injured nerd on the ground, then looked at the other students. "Take him to the infirmary," he told them firmly.

They nodded and moved quickly to help the boy, picking up his broken glasses and trying to steady him as they led him away. With that, the man who had stopped the fight turned and left too, the echoes of what had just happened still hanging thick in the air.

...

After leaving the scene, the man suddenly remembered he had forgotten his bag in the car. With a frustrated sigh, he turned back, retraced his steps through the parking lot, and grabbed the bag from the back seat.

Once he had everything, he headed back toward the university entrance and stepped inside. The hallways were wide and bright, filled with the sound of students moving around, voices echoing against the walls.

He stopped a passing staff member and asked politely, “Excuse me, can you tell me where the principal’s office is?”

The staff member nodded and gave him quick directions, which he followed until he found himself in front of a sturdy wooden door. Taking a steadying breath, he knocked lightly.

“Come in!” called a warm voice from inside.

He pushed the door open and stepped in, bowing slightly out of respect. “Hello, I am Xiao zhan” he greeted.

The principal, an older man with a kind expression, smiled and gestured for him to enter fully. “Welcome. Welcome to the university! We’ve been expecting you.”

The man gave an apologetic smile. “I’m sorry I was a bit delayed. There was… an incident outside, and I stopped to check on it.”

The principal nodded in understanding. “Ah, I see. That’s all right. I’m glad you’re here now.”
