ACT 1: Echoes of War-Chapter 1: The City of Eltros

20 0 2

The city never slept.

Eltros pulsed with life even beneath the midnight sky, where glowing neon signs reflected off rain-slicked streets and towering skyscrapers stretched into the clouds. Hover-cars zipped through the skyline, and the hum of distant trains echoed like a heartbeat beneath the city's metallic bones.

But beneath the illusion of peace, something stirred.

Schy sprinted across the rooftop, her boots slamming against concrete as the cold wind whipped through her crimson jacket. Her silver hair trailed behind her, catching the glow of the streetlights. She pressed a finger to her earpiece.

"Levi, I've got a visual on the Fragment," she whispered, eyes narrowing at the faint blue shimmer hovering above a broken alley.

"Copy. I'm two blocks out," Levi's voice crackled through the comms. Calm, steady - as always.

Schy crouched behind a billboard, scanning the alley below. Amidst the piles of trash and rusted debris, a glowing shard floated, pulsing with faint energy. The edges shimmered with spectral light - an Echo Fragment, one of many scattered after the Core shattered years ago.

Everyone in Eltros wanted those fragments. Some for power. Some for money.

And some for destruction.

She leaped down, landing silently behind a dumpster. The fragment hovered inches above the ground, whispering promises of forgotten memories, power... and chaos.

Suddenly, footsteps echoed in the darkness.

Schy pressed her back to the wall, pulse quickening. A tall figure approached, clad in dark clothes, face hidden beneath a hood. His steps were too confident for an ordinary scavenger.

An Echo Hunter? She tightened her grip on her blade.

The stranger knelt by the fragment. His hand hovered over the shard, blue light reflecting in his eyes - piercing, sharp, strangely... familiar.

Schy's breath hitched. Something was off.

"Step away from the fragment," she ordered, voice firm.

The stranger didn't flinch. Slowly, he stood, turning to face her. His hood fell back, revealing disheveled dark hair and a sharp jawline. But his eyes - cold, calculating, filled with secrets - sent a shiver down her spine.

"I'm not your enemy," he spoke quietly, voice carrying an edge of mystery.

Schy's stance tightened. "Funny, you're acting like one."

Before the tension could snap, another voice burst through her earpiece.

"Schy! We've got incoming-!"

A deafening blast shattered the alley as figures in black armor poured in, weapons drawn, masks glowing with crimson symbols.

"Damn it - Karla's soldiers," Schy cursed, recognizing the mark. Her former friend turned enemy had been relentless lately, sending her troops to snatch fragments all over the city.

The mysterious man beside the fragment didn't hesitate. In a blur of movement, he grabbed the shard, its energy sparking around him - yet his expression remained eerily calm.

Schy lunged forward, but the soldiers closed in, surrounding them both.

"Looks like we'll have to fight our way out," the stranger muttered, slipping a sleek dagger from his belt.

Schy glared at him, blade ready. "Who the hell are you?"

The man smirked faintly, eyes glowing faint blue. "Russel."

And with that, chaos erupted as Karla's soldiers attacked.
