A cat, lean and quiet, slunk around the side of the building. His green eyes regarded the girl with longing. The girl turned to face him, but he was not there. A cat built from shadows, an invisible guardian. Even in the dark, the girl was unafraid, knowing someone was watching over her. Though unknown to the girl, it was her long dead cat, from her childhood, a distant reminder. Though change was always occurring, one thing would stay the same. The bond between them.
~
The girl walked away from the dank alleyway, walking inside the building she had been standing near moments before. She had been placed on watch; the entities had been causing trouble nearby. It was only a matter of time before something happened. The girl, a source of light, had the power to banish them at will. There was only one problem. She could hear them, their cries, their pleas, their feelings. She knew her will would crumble someday, she wouldn't be able to banish them, but she must keep her family safe. It was the only way.
A constant cycle of being forced to listen to them whisper to either taunt her or beg for their lives. Always laughing, never ceasing to torment her all because she was born as a child of the Light. For her family, she was a beacon of hope, but they began to take her for granted, always assuming she'd always be there to help them or to banish the entities who's spirits haunted her even after they were exterminated. They knew nothing of what she felt, and frankly, they couldn't care less. That was the truth about people, they started to take the good things in life for granted. As they say, you get more flowers only when you pass because regret is stronger than gratitude.
