It's finally dark. I grab the carton of eggs out of the fridge and carefully place them in my bag. "You're sure you want to go through with this? We could be caught." I ask, holding my car keys in my jacket pocket. "Yeah, I'm sure." It's been forever since I've seen Yuri actually happy. She's dated this guy for years, and he only ever treated her like shit. She always put up with it because 'they were in love', it didn't matter how well I got my point across. But finally, she made it out, and she was getting better. And now, we're about to get some nice, petty revenge. We know it's petty. But why should we care? I head to the door, pulling out my keys from my pocket. "Kaia, wait," Yuri grabs the hand I'm holding my keys with. Is she getting cold feet..? "Let's go by foot, his area isn't that great, we wouldn't want your bike to get messed up." Shit, she's right. Man, I was looking forward to driving my motorcycle this late at night. I'd have to park it somewhere else just in case. "Alright, lead the way."
We walk down the dark streets of his neighborhood. It's creepy as hell. I thought he had some job where he was flying out to other countries, getting a lot of money. I've never gone near his house, it doesn't look like he's as rich as he says he is. I mean, he lives with his mom still. It should be obvious. If he has money to fight his mom in a lawsuit, he has money to move out; he's a grown man. He probably doesn't have the money to wash his car normally, in fact, it's probably his moms car. Which, if it is, his mom's racist, she probably deserves it anyway. And if he lied about that too, it'll make her mad enough to where he's gonna serve the consequences. What seems like 20 minutes, Yuri stops in her tracks. I can tell she's nervous. Or just cold, she chose to wear a tiny black dress with a light weight purple leather jacket with slits at the arms. I know I'd be a little cold in that. She could also be angry.. but knowing Sky, it's probably all of the above. I pull the eggs out of my bag and squeeze her hand. "You ready?" I try to be a bit more playful, reminding her that this is going to be petty fun. I hand her the carton. She grins, grabbing the first egg. She hits the car straight on the license plate. "Come on, get the windows too," I say, throwing an egg square on the back window. After that, eggs are flying everywhere. I got 36 of them, so he's going to have a lot of fun washing this car himself. Eggs disappear from the carton quickly. I know some may say this is a waste, but I promise to all of those people who take things way too seriously, this is the best way I've used eggs in my entire life. As we're down to the last two, his front door opens. We quickly threw the last two eggs, ditching the carton on the floor. He's screaming his ass off, but he probably will have a heart attack trying to chase us.
We run down the street and into other narrow alleys. Our laughter fills the night, and his screams become distant echoes. He's too big to chase us, and too dumb to follow the sounds of our voices. He might call the cops, which is why we have to run. It's not like we'll go to jail, but I still don't feel like bothering with the police. The dark street was dimly lit up by something in the sky. Fireworks. And they're loud. Who the hell is lighting fireworks? Is it some weird holiday? Either way, it pisses me off. Sure, they're pretty, but I feel like my ears are about to explode. We kneel somewhere so that Yuri can catch her breath. She's got asthma, and I run fast. At least we got away. She looks up at me, and starts laughing. Holy shit, I haven't egged anything for such a long time. Last time I egged something was when Hinako and I egged the science teachers house after he got arrested for sexually assaulting 3 girls in our class. And that wasn't the only thing we did; cheese on the car , soup on the porch, toilet paper in his tree. It was the most fun I had in high school. It was posted everywhere, it was even on the news. I'm still shocked we weren't caught, but even if we were, would we really be blamed?
After a while of waiting, I peek out from the wall. Something was off. It was more quiet than usual. The fireworks were gone, and there weren't any lights on. Not even the streetlight.
"Wait, did the power go out?" I whisper, raising up from the ground. Yuri checks her phone. "Shit, wait, my phone died." She taps her screen repeatedly. "What? Wasn't it charged before we got here?" I ask. She charged it the whole time she was at my apartment. "Yeah, that's weird. It isn't turning on at all. Check yours,"
I pull my phone out. Mine was low, but not enough to be dead. Sure enough, it won't turn on. "Holy shit," I mutter under my breath. I don't feel good about this at all. But we should figure out what's going on. Just in case, I've always got self defense gear. "Come on, let's go see if anyone else is having this issue." I walk out from the narrow street. "Shit Kaia, you don't think this was some revenge prank, do you?" I can tell Yuri is on the brink of tears as she says this. "We egged his house 5 minutes ago, I don't think he could pull this off." I say reassuringly. "Well, what if he did catch up to us, and he killed us, and this is hell, and we just don't know it yet?" I stop in my tracks and turn to her. "You really think I'd let him kill either of us that easy?" She pauses to think. The answer to that is no. The rest of the time we try to find somewhere with power, or people, she's sticking right behind me silently, probably coming up with millions of theories in her head, making herself panic. Which is something I would have done a few years ago, so I understand where she's coming from, but we have no clue what's going on. After a while of walking, I see some sort of lit up structure in the distance. And an arrow up ahead that might be pointing to it. "Here's something," I point up ahead, snapping her out of her thoughts.
"I don't know, should we follow it? What if it's a trick?" She whispers. There's no one around who would hear her in the first place. "Well, we should still check it out. Maybe everyone went there. It could be some sort of evacuation method.. though, I don't know what we're evacuating from." Maybe that's what the fireworks were for, but I didn't pay much attention to them. Either way, we have to see whats up there. As I move forward, she stays in her tracks. She's still uncertain. "Look, it might not be safe to stay here. It could be a trap, but there's really only one way to find out." She sighs, and reluctantly follows me, gripping onto my arm like she's constipated. I don't know what to expect, and I don't exactly have a great feeling about this. But I'm feeling pretty uneasy staying in place. It can't be as bad as Yuri imagines, right?
