The cold air of the medical wing of Rhodes Island made my bones ache, not of pain but of anticipation; and worry.
I had signed up for a science trial, better put, clinical trial. From the documents that I was able to read, it had something to do with a new synthesized Originum substance.
Originum Type V.
Stronger, harder, and more potent. Twice as deadly when used in any other way as well, but the details on how they were able to figure THAT out is shady in of itself.
However, the experiment itself is what caught my eye due to how they were using this new Originum. Even though we still haven't found a cure for the original but I digress. Originum Type V has some capabilities that allows for "Channeling" and also "Anchoring" both of which a medical operator will go over with me before I engage in this experiment.
If there was an operator at all.
I looked around the entire wing and there seemed to be absolutely no one. Behind the desks, lab screens, and also lounges; it was completely empty.
I looked down at the time on my device.
20 minutes till 6, give or take.
Suddenly I hear a soft hiss of compressed air escaping. I looked up and saw the doors to an elevator opening.
A small Medic came out of it holding a clipboard, she immediately spotted me and smiled wryly.
"Y/N?" She called out. I could sense she was a little shy.
I stood up and responded, "Yes, that's me." I began to slowly walk over to her, picking up my pace upon seeing her nod.
"Excellent, you're on time! Follow me." She hardly waits for me before she begins to walk past the desks and countless doors that like the walls of this wing.
I catch up to her and walk side by side.
"You're here quite early you know." She says whilst looking at her device.
As she looks down at her tablet I sneak a glance at her name tag: Folinic. Junior Medic.
"I get that a lot, I'm a little worried about being late most of the time so I usually come in about 30 minutes earlier." I rub the back of my neck. "Especially for something as important as this, you know?"
Folinic smiles softly. "Of course, you're going to be a very huge part of Rhodes Island history! The good side."
Is there.. a bad side?
"Are there any more details about the experiment I should know? I feel like I only got the synopsis on it." I asked.
"Oh, um that's really not for me to say. The lead director will be the one who will be helping you out with that. Sorry." Folinic seemed genuinely sorry for not being able to tell me which at the very least comforted me.
"No worries then." I smiled. Man.
We turned the corner at the end of the hallway and stopped in front of this reinforced door. Folinic then proceeded to type a series of numbers into a keypad. The door hissed with pressure before pulling back and sliding into its frame.
This worried me for some reason.
I think Folinic was able to tell I was getting nervous for a second because she nudged my arm.
"Don't worry Y/N! It's just standard protocol to do this for all of Rhodes Islands important projects."
"Of course I believe you."
