There really isn’t a more conceded bastard them him.
They both drew blood before they could be separated- yes god in all his “greatness” does bleed- Gage angry because of God’s duplicitous attitude, and God because he thought Lucifer had sent Gage after him, which easily could have spelled war. But nope, Gage had acted on his own. And not that Lucifer was thrilled with the idea after the fact, but he was always up for seeing God get knocked down a notch or two.
The only bright side was Gage did manage to knock some sense in God, and realizing just how unjustly his actions were he called it off, giving the mortals the option of free will once more.
There was an animosity between them from moment one, Gage and Michael, one that Gage has never quite grasped the reason for in all his immortal years. If it was today, sure, the two of them were always at each other’s throat, but on the very first time they met? That was a puzzle Gage still hasn’t been able to put together.
Unlike that Sera Turner, that was one he would make it his mission to discover. He wanted to know more about her, everything about her. Because if he was sure of one thing, it was that she most definitely was not who she appeared to be.
A lesser man, or demon for that matter, would have missed that tiny glimpse of who she really was. Too distracted be the package as a whole, coiffed and styled so she seemed no different than those around her. Yet she had manners in a world that didn’t believe in them. A world that believed their money and status excused them from their piggish and rude behavior.
In those two little words, ‘I’m sorry’, she showed Gage who she was behind those fancy clothes and conceited attitude, revealed the front that was just that. Had she truly been like the majority of the self-important girls he had so far encountered here, then she wouldn’t have conceded. She would have snorted, or ignored him outright as she had been attempting to do. But no, she took the time to apologize to him in the off chance that she had offended him by not listening to what he had to say, a guest in her company. And she had done it out of habit, not a conscious act.
And he wanted to know why. Why there was warmth in those brown eyes of hers and not iciness. Why she was pretending to be something she wasn’t, something she obviously struggled to be.
She was a mystery he wanted to solve. Something fun he’d hopefully get to do, a hobby for him on this trip back to earth versus the work he was sent here for.
It didn’t hinder his curiosity that she just happened to be exactly his type of woman either.
She was pretty but not gorgeous which lent for an easier demeanor he assumed. Because those who were beautiful knew they were beautiful and felt the world owed them a favor simply for existing. Her small features were proportioned perfectly on her heart shaped face that wasn’t overly made up, again making her stand out from those around her. He liked it actually, whereas so many others try to hide their flaws behind their layers of makeup painted on their face, hers were there to see. Including the tiny scratch on the right side of her chin that he couldn’t help but stare at, wondering what could have possibly caused it as she continued to ignore him earlier. At least until that thick curtain of perfectly curled chestnut hair fell over her face as she reached for her coffee, breaking Gage from whatever spell he had fallen under.
Had he not been such a loathsome sod Gage would have thanked Fred for causing Sera’s rushed movements as she escaped from the Dean. Because of such he was able to catch a glimpse of the flesh beneath that oversized sweater as well. Seeing the slim but not hard body, her figure filled out in what seemed all the right places. It was a shame that she would try to hide such a beautiful thing beneath clothes such as that.
