(Still) March 20, later
She stared at herself in the mirror, slowly spinning round to see all of the dress. It fell gracefully to her knees, with a soft, flowing silhouette that moved gently with each step. It gathered at the waist, accentuating her figure. She thought she looked quite good in it, not that she was trying to impress anyone.
Her makeup was clean, minimal; her shoes plain; and her tied back simply. She'd already spent what felt like an hour wondering if a party really was the best thing to do.
But she couldn't let the others down now.
So she left the hotel room, walking to the lift to go to the lobby.
Kyle was already there. "Hello, Ella," he smiled slightly, it was nicer than his normal smirk.
"Hi," she replied, sending him back a shy smile.
His smile widened, eyes transfixed on hers.
The lift pinged next to them. Some poor family got out, starting to walk between them.
"Sorry," Ella mumbled as she stepped back.
"Beklager," he said awkwardly, hand scratching the back of his neck.
There was a moment of silence once they were alone again.
Kyle broke it, "Shall we?" He gestured to the lift.
"Right, yes, we should..." Ella nodded, absolutely not at all embarrassed by her hesitation before.
They got into the lift, standing side by side, avoiding each other's eyes as the doors closed.
As they started moving down, their eyes met, and Ella froze. Kyle cracked a smile, and she laughed along with him, erasing the earlier awkwardness.
The lift stopped at another floor, and an older woman got in with a walking frame. Ella shuffled closer to Kyle to make room.
The rest of the ride was in silence.
Eventually the lift reached the ground floor. As the woman left, she turned around, smiled, and said in Norwegian, "Så søtt par!"
Kyle went slightly red, "Nei, det er vi ikke, hun er ikke min - "
But it was too late. She'd left.
"What did she say?"
"It was nothing."
"Okay...?"
"Come on, I see Sissal."
He grabbed her hand to pull her out of the lift and into the lobby.
"Ah, there you two are," Sissal said, greeting them, "And with matching outfits." She lifted her eyebrows and smirked.
Kyle dropped her hand, "What, no!"
Ella glanced at him again, taking in his clothes for the first time. It was true, his jacket was the exact same colour as her dress. What if people thought this was intentional? Was that what the old woman meant?
Sissal's voice interrupted her thoughts, "No need to sound so offended Kyle. It's a compliment." She hugged Ella, and walked towards the doors, still with one arm around her shoulders, "The others are outside."
Kyle followed after them.
When they'd gone through the doors, they were greated by loud welcomes and introductions. There were the girls from Latvia, Justyna from Poland, Emmy and her brother, and of course Væb.
Ella stepped back a little, after being introduced, to get some space. A voice spoke into her ear, "Hi," making her head whip round to see who it was.
It was Hálfdán.
