I'm finally at the airport, saying goodbye to my mom, who's crying (very loudly), and my dad, who's just staring at me like he doesn't feel anything.
As usual.
"Take care of yourself, call me every day, and don't let any strangers come near you," says my mom through tears.
"Yes, mom, I know I shouldn't trust anyone I don't know," I reply.
Then my mom says goodbye with tears in her eyes. My dad does nothing but stare. I wonder if he's still breathing, he's so stiff.
I turn around, walk toward the security gate to get scanned, and pass through with no problem. Since I still have an hour before boarding, I decide to stop by the airport Starbucks and get a vanilla coffee for breakfast.
Now, all that's left is to wait.
What the hell is the first thing I'll do once I get there? Classes don't start for another week and I have nothing to do in the meantime. I mean, I could play video games and waste time for a week, but even that doesn't sound that appealing.Damn it... am I really so messed up that the only things I can think of are studying or working?
Yeah.
Maybe I should do a bit of sightseeing? I could also try to learn how to socialize in and find some friends once I'm there. Yeah, that might be the best option, though I'll be sharing a room with a complete stranger, so maybe I'll get someone sociable... or not.Screw it. I'm just going to bet that the bastard I'll be sharing a room with is sociable, so I won't bother watching any tutorial on how to socialize.
Suddenly, I hear them calling passengers for the flight to Canterbury, England. I get up with my coffee still in hand and head to board the plane. I feel my heart racing: I know my dream is just 16 hours away from becoming reality, and that all the sacrifice of the last three years will have been worth it.
I climb the shitty little boarding stairs, carrying my backpack (where I've got my phone and headphones) since my stuff is already at the residence, walk down the narrow aisle, and sit in my assigned seat. I let out a sigh, kind of loud, which earns me some annoyed looks.
Then I put on my headphones, play my Green Day playlist, and wait for the flight to take off.And so the flight takes off. With every meter the plane moves, my nerves increase.By hour 10, I can't even think clearly. I'm curled up in my seat.
Can you imagine if one of your future classmates is on this flight?
Shut up and let me be in peace.
