The school bell rang, echoing through the halls.

Students slowly filled the room, talking, laughing, dragging their feet to their usual seats. It was another normal morning, just the start of another long day.

Eirian was already in his seat, writing in his planner. His handwriting was neat, and his notes were already organized. He liked being early. He liked calm mornings.

Beside him, a loud bang.

Rose dropped her bag on the desk and flopped into her chair like she'd just climbed a mountain.

"Ugh," she groaned, laying her head on the desk. "Why am I even here? I should've just skipped today."

"You say that every day," Eirian said without looking at her.

"Because I mean it every day," she answered. "Did you do the homework for ELS? I forgot we even had one."

"I did. You didn't?"

She sat up and grinned. "Of course not. That's why I sit beside you."

"I'm not your homework supplier," he said.

She giggled. "Yes, you are. My personal genius. Come on, share. Please?"

Eirian sighed and got his ELS notebook and handed it to her.

"You're the best," Rose said, pulling out her pen. "Seriously, what would I do without you?"

"Fail," Eirian answered.

Rose laughed. "Exactly."

The classroom got busier. Students were moving around, teasing each other, checking their phones, opening their bags.

Eirian kept his head down, flipping through his notes. He didn't really talk to anyone else. Rose was enough. She did most of the talking anyway.

"I heard something," she whispered suddenly.

"Here we go again," Eirian muttered.

"I'm serious," she said, lowering her voice. "There's a new student. A transfer. I heard it from Luna. She heard it from someone in the office."

Eirian didn't look up. "So?"

"So?" Rose repeated, leaning close. "Its almost the end of second quarter. That's weird... Do you think he can catch up?"

"Dunno" He shrugs.

Just then, the classroom door opened.

Their their adviser and also IWRBS teacher walked in holding a clipboard and his usual half-full coffee mug. Everyone began settling down.
