The wind carried no scent.
No pine, no wet soil, no breath of creature or storm. Just empty motion through skeletal trees, as though even the land had forgotten how to feel.
The girl walked alone.
Not because she had to—
Because she was told to.
Lark had taught her that some trails must be taken without a guide. Some silences must be felt before they can be understood.
So she walked.
She carried a journal. Blank. Unwritten.
She carried a bow. Handmade. Still warm with use.
She carried a name that no one had asked for yet.
Because out here, names didn't matter until the land spoke them back.
By midday, she came across the old outpost—collapsed roof, moss-eaten timber, half a trail marker buried in snow. She knelt beside the marker and cleared the frozen dirt. A faint carving remained:
"VOSS"
Not a monument.
Just memory.
And not hers.
Yet.
That night, beneath a fractured sky and a low-burning fire, she opened her journal and wrote her first words:
This land is silent.
But not still.
And if I walk long enough, maybe I'll find the thing we all left behind.
Not the fire.
Not the legacy.
But the last piece of ourselves that was never named.
