The air is thick with heat and perfume and somewhere beneath the chandeliers i choose who will die tonight.
The air is too thick. Too sweet , too intoxicating, clinging to my every breath. I have a clear view of the King from here, him and his men drunk on attention and whatever fills their patterned golden cups.
The music is beautiful - almost enough to make me forget why i came. Almost. Her face still haunts me , a reminder of what i'm doing. Who i'm doing this for.
I bring myself back into an overwhelming reality and look around. And then i spot him. He was on the council when it happened. He's laughing , drinking, dancing. How fucking dare he? How can he live with himself? How can his life be anything but utter guilt and shame?
My mask is covering part of my eyes and it is pissing me off. I adjust it slightly as i move in toward him. I don't know his name - I don't particularly care. My dress sways around me in deep crimson waves as I try and get closer. I hope he sees it and is reminded of her.
He's spotted me. He takes me in , my dress , my frame , and somehow manages to seemingly tower over me. Looking down on me. He probably doesn't even know he's doing it , the condescending bastard.
And then the bastard winks at me.
"Good evening , Sir"
"My, you look very pretty, sweetheart" He's had too much to drink. i can smell it. He reeks of sweat and alcohol.
"Oh gosh, thank you" I muster up what i can only hope to be a somewhat innocent smile.
He steps closer and tucks a strand of my hair behind my ear. He's close - too close. I have to restrain myself from destroying him. Destroying fucking everything. How dare they all live while she is dead?
I pull out a hairpin slowly from the back of my head. He's too busy staring at my tits to notice. I lead him to darker , quieter corner. He's smiling stupidly and i can't wait to wipe that patronising smirk off his goddamn face.
My hairpin is buried deep in his neck.
I need to get out of here.
I move through the crowds , keeping my mask from slipping both literally and figuratively. They know what's happening. Do they know it's me?
I exit through a window on the ground floor round the other side of the castle. I'm nearly there. I'm so fucking close it's almost funny.
And then i see him.
Shit , he's beautiful.
"Make it a habit of jumping out windows, trouble?"
Holy shit , this man is real. He looks like he shouldn't be, like a fucking god.
"Just wanted to get some air." I need to find a way to get past him, to get out.
He smirks , stepping closer. God this man is huge. 6,4 at least, maybe more. His dark hair dances around the edges of his face and he moves it out his face slightly.
"Like what you see, trouble?"
Was i staring at him that hard? No offence to myself or anything, but what the fuck am i doing?
"Ha , your funny"
He moves closer still , and reaches out to twirl a strand of my hair around his finger. A shiver runs down my spine. Shit, Im shaking and he hasn't even touched me yet.
"You like that, huh?"
I want to punch him.
"Touch me again and I will hurt you"
He doesn't seem fazed. If anything, his smile only widens.
"Is that a threat, trouble?"
I take back everything about him looking like a god.
"Did it sound like a compliment?"
He opens his mouth to retort, but before he can inside the castle erupts into chaos.
I restrain my smile.
They've found him.
"Sorry trouble, looks like we'll have to finish this riveting conversation later" And with that he heads into the castle. Perfect.
They don't notice me slip away.
