Third POV:

Winter Kim hated field trips. It wasn't the learning, she loved learning, devouring books and documentaries with an insatiable hunger far exceeding her classmates’ interests. It was the performative normalcy she had to maintain. The bored sighs, the subtle eye rolls at the teacher, the half-hearted attempts to look engaged. It was all a façade, meticulously constructed and constantly maintained.

Because Winter Kim was anything but normal. Beneath the plain glasses and deliberately bland clothing resided the mind of a genius, the strategic prowess of a seasoned CEO, and the bank account of a billionaire. Her parents, tragically lost in a research expedition gone wrong, had left her an empire – Kim Industries, a tech giant involved in everything from sustainable energy to cutting-edge medical research. Winter ran it all, from the shadows, with the help of a loyal board and a handful of trusted advisors who knew the truth about their young, unseen leader.

But today, she was just another high school student, shuffling through the corridors of the Metropolitan Museum of Art on a mandatory class trip. Her best friend, Ningning, walked beside her, bubbling with excitement.

“Winter, look! That’s an original Van Gogh!” Ningning squealed, pointing at “Wheat Field with Cypresses.” Ningning’s passions were out in the open, worn on her sleeve like a badge of honor. Music, art, fashion – she embraced it all with an infectious enthusiasm that Winter envied.

Winter nodded, offering a small smile. “Impressive.” Inside, however, her mind was already dissecting the brushstrokes, analyzing the color palette, and researching the artist’s life, trying to understand the emotions that had driven him.

And then she saw her.

Across the crowded hall, bathed in the soft glow of the museum lights, stood Karina Yu. Her golden hair cascaded down her back like a waterfall, her eyes, the color of warm honey, sparkled with amusement as she listened to her own friend, Giselle, speak. Karina was everything Winter wasn’t: confident, effortlessly beautiful, and seemingly oblivious to the quiet girl who had been secretly worshipping her from afar for the past six years.

Karina Yu was also incredibly wealthy. Her family owned Yu Corporation, a rival tech company to Kim Industries, though Winter did her best to keep their business dealings separate from her personal life. She didn't want Karina to know who she really was, afraid that the truth of her wealth and responsibilities would somehow taint the way Karina saw her, even if Karina barely saw her at all.

Giselle noticed Winter staring. She nudged Karina, whispering something in her ear. Karina turned, her gaze meeting Winter's. Winter's heart leaped into her throat. She quickly averted her eyes, feigning interest in a nearby Roman bust.

“Nervous much?” Ningning teased, bumping Winter's shoulder playfully.

“Shut up,” Winter mumbled, her cheeks burning.

The class moved on, but Winter couldn't shake the feeling of Karina's eyes on her. She tried to focus on the exhibits, but her mind kept drifting back to the golden-haired girl across the room.

Later, while the class was gathered around a display of ancient Egyptian artifacts, Winter wandered off on her own. She found herself in a dimly lit hall dedicated to the history of arachnids. It felt quiet, secluded, a welcome respite from the chattering crowds.

As she examined a display case filled with preserved spiders, a sharp pain shot through her hand. She gasped, pulling back to see a small, red spider scuttling away. A radioactive spider, apparently forgotten by the museum staff.

“Great,” she muttered to herself, sucking on the small puncture wound. “Just what I needed.”

She dismissed the incident as nothing more than an annoying bite and rejoined her class. But as the day wore on, she began to feel strange… different. A tingling sensation spread through her veins, and her senses seemed heightened, sharper. She could hear conversations from across the room, see details she had never noticed before.

By the time the bus pulled up to their school, Winter felt like she was buzzing with energy, ready to explode. She made a hasty goodbye to Ningning and practically ran home, eager to understand what was happening to her.

Little did she know, the bite of that radioactive spider was about to change her life forever. And it would intertwine her destiny with Karina Yu in ways she could never have imagined.
