Spider-Society HQ. Briefing Room.
The hologram flickered above the table, a map of dimensional tears and anomalies stretched across the grid. Jess was pacing. Gwen had her arms crossed. Hobie leaned lazily against the wall, and Miles sat on the edge of the table, legs swinging.
Miguel stood at the head of the room, arms crossed over his broad chest, face carved from stone.
And Callisto?
She lingered by the far wall, leaning casually, but anyone paying attention could see her tension. The way her fingers toyed with a strand of hair, the sharp glance she threw Miguel's way every time his voice dipped into that low growl.
And they noticed.
Gwen's brows twitched.
Miles leaned toward Hobie, whispering.
Jess rolled her eyes.
Miguel's eyes never left her.
"The anomaly's unstable," Miguel announced, voice like gravel and sin. "A glitching nexus building. Stay sharp. No distractions."
His gaze pinned Callisto, like a promise.
Hobie smirked. "You two good? Tension's so thick in here I might need a knife."
Callisto didn't look away, a smirk curling her lips. "I'm fine."
Miguel's jaw ticked. "Move out."
Glitching Nexus Building – Earth-4112
The mission descended into chaos. Dim corridors, flickering lights, walls splitting into alternate realities for split seconds. The others moved through the building, dealing with anomalies, but Miguel's focus never shifted.
Every time Callisto moved, his eyes followed.
Every time she turned a corner, her pulse picked up.
She felt the weight of his gaze, the heat of his hunger.
The comm crackled.
"Status check," Jess's voice called.
"Miles, Gwen, Hobie?"
"Good," Hobie replied.
"We've got glitches to the east," Miles added.
A tense pause.
"Miguel, Callisto?"
Callisto clicked her comm. "I'm—"
Miguel's voice cut in low. "I've got her."
Jess's pause was thick with suspicion. "...Yeah, figured."
Hobie coughed a laugh. Gwen sighed.
"Try not to kill each other," Jess muttered, cutting the line.
Secluded Corridor — Behind the Nexus Building
Miguel was faster.
Callisto spun around a corner and he was there — a hand on her wrist, pulling her into a darkened alcove, glitching blue and red light warping around them.
"You've been testing me, muñeca."
His voice was nothing but smoke and sin now.
"Back off, O'Hara."
Her breath hitched the second his body pressed against hers.
"No."
His fangs brushed her neck, right where he'd bitten before, breath hot and shuddering. The scent of her made him dizzy. The Crimson Bite craving snapping.
"You feel that?" he murmured, sharp teeth teasing over her pulse.
"Your pulse racing for me."
She swallowed hard. "Maybe it's fear."
Miguel smirked. "Liar."
Without warning, his fangs sank into her neck — not deep enough to hurt, just to mark. A low, guttural growl rumbled in his chest as the metallic taste of her hit his tongue.
Callisto's breath stuttered, a soft gasp escaping as her hands gripped his suit.
"Mierda... you taste like sin."
She glared up at him, lips parted, cheeks flushed.
His hand slid to her waist, claws grazing the curve of her hip.
"Say it, Callisto."
"Say what?" she breathed, defiant and dizzy.
"That you want me to lose control."
A beat.
A long, electric second.
Then her lips ghosted over his ear.
"Lose it, Miguel."
His mouth crashed against hers, brutal and desperate, fangs dragging her lip. The kiss tasted like blood, fire, and velvet. Her back hit the wall, his hand splayed over her throat, not tight, just a promise.
Her hands tugged his suit, nails scratching his skin. His claws ghosted down her side.
Just when it tipped into something reckless —
The comm crackled again.
"O'Hara. Callisto. Status."
Miguel groaned against her mouth, forehead pressed to hers. "Handled."
He stepped back, leaving her breathless, neck marked, lips swollen.
A smirk ghosted his lips as he turned, slipping back into the mission shadows.
Callisto sagged against the wall, pulse wild.
Wanting more.
And the mission was far from over.
