Two sets of arrests in less than a month would make any organization look bad and in both she would be held responsible. Not that any of those incarcerated would speak of the Angels to the authorities- their loyalty to the cause was one of the reasons they were chosen- but their identities could still get traced back to the chapter. And that alone would bring suspicion down on the Beta Alpha Gammas, and as such, the Better Angels as a whole.

She herself was just one of many leaders, and as a community they decided how and where to act. But she already knew their faith in her was waning. It was her overexcited and mourning self that rushed the attack on the pharmaceutical company.

It was agreed action needed to be taken, but the other leaders wanted to give it more time, let them all clear their heads before they decided what to do. But Sera wouldn’t hear it she wanted them to pay and pay now. But that was just how Sera had learned to live, she didn’t cry, she didn’t get sad, she got something done.

Guess she had a little Lizzy in her too.

And as they were a democracy she had the rest of the Angels behind her, and majority ruled.

They had all mourned the loss of Drake true, the one who overdosed, because he was one of their plain clothed members and instrumental to numerous missions of theirs. He was someone who existed outside their circle, who didn’t belong to their group or the fraternity, someone who couldn’t have pointed out a single of the Better Angel’s leaders for their safety and his. He was one of their information gatherers, like Chelsea, only on a more anonymous level.

More important than any of that, he was Sera’s friend, even if he was completely unaware of who she was to the organization. And if she was being honest with herself, Sera knew that was the real reason she rushed into things.

But now, after two missions that had resulted in arrests of their members, Sera was going to have a lot of explaining to do. She could tell them Lizzy had acted on her own, brought the weapon even though she knew that wasn’t how the Angel’s operated. But the truth was Lizzy wasn’t in charge, of the mission or the Angels, Sera was. And if it was agreed that she couldn’t control her own then she was sure they’d be looking into a replacement for her. Not that they would have promoted Lizzy even if she hadn’t been arrested, because she had been handpicked by Sera herself as her successor, but that was probably the only matter that would keep Sera in her leadership role until she graduated.

She hated to think that would kick her out completely. Though those belonging to the Angels only acted while in college, once they were off in the world in their chosen careers they still had a tether to the group. It was everything she had worked for, why she chose her major. She wanted to be the person that replaced her Uncle someday. Be a better advocate for those who deserved it, not just who could afford it.

But without the Angel’s backing she knew she would struggle, not financially, but without their vote of confidence would those she would advocate for really accept her? Or would they think she was just another one of those big talkers who dumps them once they get what they need, get where they wanted to be?

The campus’s shuttle bus came to a halt, breaking Sera from whatever thoughts she had about the future, brining the present back into sharp focus.

She looked over her shoulder out the window, yup, it was her stop. The administration offices.

She gave thanks to the bus driver- something she would have never done had she not been the only one along for the ride- and stepped off into the late autumn sun.  With a deep breath she looked up to the fifth floor of the sixties era building, with its shiny glass windows and grey on grey concrete walls, to where she was about to be. She could handle this, she knew she could. The difference between a lie and a believable one was self doubt. If she believed the lie she was about to tell was true, then so would the Dean.
