Regulus and James broke up after James found out that Regulus got the Dark Mark and has joined the Death Eaters, he never did let Regulus explain himself either

One day, Regulus is on the astronomy tower and James comes in, he doesn't know that Regulus is there and doesn't notice him at first

reg pov-

I sit looking at the stars and writing, wishing they could take me up there with them because what am I but a boy with the name of a star with out my love who wont let me explain to him that this is all for good and I plan to take down the dark lord but nevertheless my beautiful James shall never know and the worst part is I don't regret it

James's eyes catch sight of him and his breath hitches in his throat, he stands there for a moment, just staring at him, taking in all the details of his face that he's been missing so much, before taking a few steps forward

"Reg.."

my quill comes to a halt and I quickly wipe away the tears I subconsciously wept but don't turn around, I know that voice anywhere but what if he's mad, I'd throw myself off the tower before I'd listen to him say I was just like my family, my mother again

James hesitantly takes a few more steps forward, coming around to the front of  reg before standing just a few feet away from him, he desperately wants to reach for him but instead shoves his hands in his pockets before speaking again

"Regulus... Please look at me.."

"I should go" I mutter helpless

James reaches out and gently grabs his wrist, his hand shaking slightly just from the touch

"Please, Regulus, just- please don't go... I just wanna talk."

I nod, I owe him everything for breaking his heart so I stay

"what's there to talk about?"

James drops his hand from his wrist but moves to be standing right in front of him, he desperately wants to just pull him into his arms, but he refrains from doing so

"I-.. I just wanna know.." James lets out a heavy sigh, running a hand through his messy hair

"Why? Why did you do it, Regulus? Why would you join them..?"

"James, beautiful, wonderful,lovely James if only you knew, if I told you, you would try to stop me, and what I'm doing is to help everyone in later times, just know that this is gonna help other people way more than its helping me, my love" regulus says as if come to terms with the thought

I wipe away some stray tears

James furrows his eyebrows, the hurt on his face clearly visible but he speaks anyway

"And why should I believe that? Why should I just- just accept what you're saying and trust you? Trust that what you're doing is for the greater good and going to help people? How do I know this isn't just some- some cover up for something else?!"

"why would I lie?"reg asks genuinely

James sighs again, his voice cracking just slightly as he speaks again
