CHAPTER II

The moment I slit my throat, I felt it—

Time stopped as I was about to reach the end.

When I opened my eyes, I was standing in a vast white space.

No walls. No ceiling.

An empty plane that stretches far.

Silence.

Then came the flicker.

A glow formed in the air—colorful, shifting, unnatural. On a closer look, there's a figure in it, hovering at a distance.

No footsteps. No shadow.

It was a young man draped in soft waves of color. Skin too pale. Almost transparent.

I was reminded of a jellyfish.

He didn’t speak. Just hovered there.

Watching warily with his colorful orbs.

Like he wasn’t sure if I’ll do harm.

I grew impatient and called for him. “Come closer, I won't hit you without cause.” My voice echoed unnaturally in this space.

“... Really..?”

He flickered into view, two meters to my right. His voice was soft, almost child-like, nothing like the forced robotic tone I heard before.

“You are brave to appear with a body to hit. I commend you so I won't hit you.”

Then he started crying—fat tears slipping down flushed, translucent cheeks.

“M-Mister, I—I stopped the damage just in time. Please don’t… do that again.”

I narrowed my eyes, running a hand through my hair in frustration. “So you're the culprit again?”

He shuddered—then broke.

“I-I-I’M S-SORRY”

Bawling. Loud. Embarrassing.

“...Either shut up or you'll go through death with me.”

He hiccuped and swallowed the rest of his sobs instantly.

“Get us seats. A table. And an espresso for me—can you do that?” I wanted something decent while dealing with this irritating situation. “Then explain yourself.”

“Y-Yes…”

Still sniffling, he glitched out of view.

The air trembled. The floor glitched beneath my feet but remained steady.
