As Bhoomi stormed towards the house, she prayed to every divine force in existence that her mother wouldn’t embarrass her.
Spoiler alert: The universe doesn’t grant her wishes.
The moment she stepped inside, her mother’s face lit up like Diwali.
"Arre, Krishna beta!" she exclaimed, rushing forward with the enthusiasm of a long-lost relative.
Bhoomi's jaw dropped. Beta? Since when was he ‘beta’?!
Krishna, of course, smiled charmingly, touching her mother’s feet like a perfect sanskaari gentleman. "Namaste, aunty. How are you?"
Bhoomi’s mom beamed, patting his head fondly. "Bas beta, now that you’re here, everything feels even better!"
Bhoomi, standing next to them, felt completely invisible.
"Ah," her mother sighed dramatically. "I was just telling Bhoomi that we needed a strong, dependable boy in the house to help with all the wedding preparations—"
Bhoomi whipped her head around. "Since when?! You literally never said that!"
Her mother ignored her, turning to Krishna with a knowing smile. "And look at fate! Krishna is here, just at the right time!"
Krishna smirked, glancing at Bhoomi. "Fate, huh?"
Bhoomi’s eye twitched.
"Yes, beta," her mother continued, completely missing the silent war happening between them. "You young people should spend more time together! Bhoomi has been so busy with work, she barely meets anyone!"
Bhoomi’s jaw dropped further. "Maa!"
Krishna pretended to look concerned. "That’s terrible, aunty. No social life? Bhoomi, yeh toh bura hua."
Bhoomi glared at him. "I have plenty of a social life, thank you very much."
Her mother waved her off. "Haan, haan, sitting alone in your room talking to Lord Krishna doesn’t count, beta."
Krishna burst out laughing.
Bhoomi wanted to sink into the ground.
Her mother was exposing her in 4K, live, no filter.
"Speaking of which," her mother continued, turning back to Krishna, the human menace, "come inside, beta. Have some chai!"
Krishna grinned. "I’d love to, aunty."
Bhoomi groaned. "Oh, for the love of—"
But before she could protest, her mother was already dragging Krishna inside like he was family.
Bhoomi trudged behind them, arms crossed, watching helplessly as her mother fussed over him.
"Beta, have some snacks too," her mother chirped, placing a plate of samosas and chai in front of Krishna. "You must be hungry after traveling."
Krishna flashed his most angelic smile. "Aunty, you’re spoiling me. If you treat me this well, I might never leave."
Bhoomi choked on air.
Her mother laughed, completely smitten. "Stay as long as you like, beta!"
Bhoomi snapped her head toward her mother. "Maa! You cannot be serious!"
Her mother shrugged. "What? Krishna is such a sweet boy. Unlike some people who only know how to scowl and complain."
Bhoomi gasped. "EXCUSE ME?!"
Krishna, the absolute menace that he was, took a slow sip of his chai and said, "She’s right, you know."
Bhoomi gritted her teeth. "I. Hate. You."
Krishna smirked over his chai. "That’s not what your mehndi says."
Bhoomi froze.
Krishna winked.
Bhoomi stormed out of the room before she committed a crime.
This was going to be the longest wedding of her life.
