...it would be pleasant to have you at today's event.

City Mayor,

Terry Wilford

Eh... again?
I curse underneath my breath. This is already the seventh time he invited me over to attend his "party." I know this darn old man well.

He's trying to appease the people's opinion.

Why?
Because he knew well the people trust me. I somewhat become a prominent figure in this city, people like and respect me. It's not without reason. I work as a doctor in a university hospital here. From time to time, I helped a lot of families who couldn't pay the hospital's bill.

A few months ago, a huge earthquake struck the city, and many infrastructure damaged so badly. Instead of running away, I jump into the ambulance and order the staff to drive where the worst earthquake's impact is. With media publicity, my name becomes famous, and that's when everyone starts to adore me.

If I'm on his side, his publicity might become better. Not to mention how close the election will be held. The mayor obviously want to win the second period, what a sly old man.

"...should I go?" I mumbles to myself. My finger slowly stroked the invitation paper, pondering deeply.

After a while, I pinch the bridge of my nose. I groan, "Ah well, it'll be hold in his mansion anyway. It won't hurt... I guess."

I toss the paper on the desk and heads back into my room. I just wanna get all this drama over. The city's condition never improves. Poverty is everywhere, and criminal organizations are also rumored on the rise.

Everything now becoming a chaos...

After changing my clothes and bringing a sling bag, I prepare to leave my house. Turns out, the online taxi is already waiting in front of the yard. I quickly hop into the car.

"Right on the location?" the driver asked, gazing at me from the rear mirror.

"Yes indeed. Please drop me right there."

"Alright. Seatbelt on."

Once I put on my seatbelt, the driver stepped on the gas pedal. The car roams the road with high speed, yet still careful not to cause an incident.

I put my head on my palm, gazing outward through the window. The city skyscrapers' light reflected in my eyes. Such beauty... a reminisce of the city's glory. Now there's nothing much left here. Its inhabitants suffer so much.

Oh God... what do you want from us?
My beloved city, the place where I have grown and lived for decades.
