You regained consciousness in a hospital, with beeping machines monitoring your heartbeat and a small radio placed on the windowsill that was quietly droning on. You also came to terms with the fact that your shoulder looked like an Egyptian mummy; your injury had been completely encased in gauze and bandages.

Groggily, you grabbed your phone from your bedside table to check the latest news stories. As you expected, it was full of your recent battle with that villain. Scrolling through the headings of various news articles, you realised that they were all pretty similar.

'The Anonymous Hero is Victorious Again!' one read.

'Lumina Saves the Day: Exciting Battle Against the Villain DoubleBlade' said another.

They mustn't have had much to work with except the battle itself, you mused to yourself. Probably because I refuse to do any interviews.

However, there were a couple of articles that brought up the common speculation as to who you really were. You'd never given away any personal information to the media since becoming a prominent hero. It was something you decided upon at the start of your career. You guessed you just weren't a fan of the fame, and the fear of it interfering with your private life.

But what if it was something else. Maybe you were just terrified of the consequences that would occur if the public found out you were-

Your phone's ringtone abruptly interrupted your train of thought. Looking down at the screen, you saw the Caller ID was none other than your friend Yuka. You didn't hesitate to answer her call, and nearly went deaf as the shrill voice of your friend exploded from your phone.

'Y/n! You finally answered! Thank goodness, I was so worried about you after I saw the news. Are you okay now? Where are you? Do you want me to-,' she rambled, before you cut her off.

'Yuka, calm down. I'm fine! My injury has more or less been healed now, so I should be okay to go home soon.'

'That's great to hear,' she sighed, and you could hear the evident relief in her tone.

'For how long have I been out since my fight?' you questioned. To you, it felt like only half an hour, but in your defence, you had been unconscious.

'Around twelve hours,' she stated.

Well, however long you were expecting, it wasn't that. You'd been out for twelve hours? That couldn't be right. You'd had a lot worse before; a wound in a non-vital area was merely a two hour trip to the hospital at the most for you.

So why had you been unconscious for that long?

You resolved to ask the doctors when they came to discharge you later. You talked with Yuka about recent events for a while, before she offered to help you get home from the hospital after you are discharged.

'That would be great, as I'm still a bit dizzy,' you admitted.

Ending the call, you shortly had a visit from your doctor to confirm you were okay to leave. You took this chance to ask them if they had found anything that might have contributed towards your long unconscious spell.

'Now that you mention it, there was something peculiar about the wound on your shoulder,' the doctor stated thoughtfully, 'It seemed to be bleeding to an excessive amount, and it carried on for so long we were worried you might die from blood loss during our examination.

'At first, we assumed it was due to a vital artery being damaged. But after a closer look at the wound after the bleeding had ceased, there was no damage to any blood vessels that would have produced that much blood. So, that was an unnatural thing that we noticed, but then again, we could have missed something. So we can't say for sure, but it was definitely strange.'

You pondered on this for a while after thanking your doctor. Maybe it was the excessive blood loss that caused you to be out for so long? But that didn't answer the question as to why there was that much bleeding to begin with. It just didn't add up.

Suddenly, you were broken from your thoughts as your friend Yuka entered the small hospital room. You turned to her, but you frowned as you realised you were still wearing your hospital gown.

'I don't think I've got any clothes to change into,' you spoke to your friend.

She only smiled in response. 'Don't worry, I figured you'd have nothing to wear. That why I brought you some of my clothes! They may be smaller than your size though, but it can't be helped.'

You smiled gratefully as she handed you a hoodie and some jeans. The hoodie fit, as you both were the same size in that aspect. The jeans, however, were slightly too short due to Yuka being, in your words, a short human being.

Reaching the door to your apartment, you rummaged around in your pockets for your house key. Yuka was standing next to you, chatting about the nearby café that just opened up and the assortment of drinks they offered.

She was broken off by the sound of your phone ringing from the depths of your bag. Yuka pulled it out for you while you clumsily opened your apartment door.

'Y/n, it's your agency,' Yuka informed you, and handed you your phone.

'I can call them back later of you wanna come in?' you asked, annoyed that your agency had to call now of all times.

'It's ok! I have to get back to my place anyway; there's a lot of paperwork I have to complete for tomorrow,' she said tiredly, 'Plus, that might be an important call.'

'I guess you're right,' you sighed, and you answered the call while waving goodbye to Yuka.

One of the agency's bosses was on the end of the line. You readied yourself for a lecture on the recklessness of your strategy during the recent battle, or something along those lines. But to your surprise, that's not what the call was about.

The boss informed you that, due to your spell in the hospital, you had missed an important meeting regarding your next mission.

You were surprised, as your recent work had mainly been patrolling and maintaining your image to the public. Not the best work, but it was mandatory if you were to keep your bosses content. You hadn't had a proper mission for a while now, and you were excited to finally be working on one again.

The information on the mission was briefed in the meeting, but you were informed that the info you needed was waiting for you when you came to your office.

Also, you would be getting an assistant sidekick to work with.

You inwardly sighed at this news. You'd never been a fan of working with others, and preferred to carry out missions solo. Well, it couldn't be helped. All you could do was wish for someone who was nice to be around, at least. You would be spending a lot of time with them on this mission.

The boss ended the call by stating that you would meet your sidekick after your briefing of the mission tomorrow. Placing your phone on the dining table, you realised you were starving. You had no idea how long it had been since you had last eaten. Tiredly, you resolved to make yourself an easy sandwich before heading to bed.

Tomorrow, you'll get a mission. And, besides the downside of having to work with a sidekick, you were ecstatic.

Finally some work that wasn't patrolling!

Chapter 2 is now complete!

I was planning on posting earlier, but I had to rewrite a lot of it! It still isn't the best, but it'll do.

I've added Yuka to the Character Information chapter, which will just be some info on her job and her quirk. Again, I may change some aspects later on regarding her relation to Y/n, but for now, that's all about her!

Thank you so much for reading! New chapter will be out soon!
