I leaned against the car, arms crossed, watching as she stood there with that stubborn look on her face.
"Kira, please stay out of trouble, can you do that for me, sis?" I asked, trying to keep my voice calm.
She rolled her eyes, already looking annoyed. "Durk, I swear if this is another one of your 'you gotta be smarter' talks, I ain't tryna hear it."
I sighed, shaking my head. "You not listening. It's not just about school fights. We already got too much goin' on. I don't need you getting locked up too."
Kira squinted at me, tilting her head. "What you mean too?"
I hesitated. I really didn't wanna bring this up, but she had to know. "I had to bail Pops out again."
She froze. Her whole face shifted, like she couldn't believe what I just said.

I couldn't believe what I was hearing.
I blinked at Durk, waiting for him to say just playin', but he didn't. He just stood there, looking at me like he already knew I was about to go off.
"He got locked up again?!" My voice came out louder than I meant, but I didn't care.
Durk nodded, rubbing his temples. "Yeah."
"Oh wow," I laughed bitterly. "So you stole my money to bail him out?! When did he even come back?"
Durk didn't answer right away, and that only pissed me off more.
"You mean to tell me this man been out, and you ain't say nothing? But you had no problem running through my money to save him?"
Durk clenched his jaw. "I ain't have no choice, Kira. He called me, needed help, so I handled it."
