The three teens continued their track up the mountain, and the snow was getting thicker under their feet, causing the nice crunch sound to get deeper.
"I hate this." Y/N moans from behind the other two.
"Man, I feel like this mountain gets bigger every time I climb it." Chris agrees, stopping when he sees someone leaning near a tree. Y/N stops leaning against Sam's back, not noticing Josh as she tries to regain her breath.
"Oh yeah? Feels the same to me." Josh says, embracing Chris in a quick hug. Her breath hitches. She wasn't ready to see him yet. What if he didn't want her here?
"Oh, come on, you grew up here. It probably feels like it's shrinking." Chris debated before looking at Sam, seeing his sister dying behind her.
"And how are you out of breath? You were up here as much as him." Chris points out.
Sam moves out of the way to show Y/N, who had now magically regained her breath.
"Yeah, but I haven't been up since last year." She argues back, seeing Josh frozen out of the conrer of her eye.
"Is... Is that my favourite girl?" Josh asks, holding his arms out to her. She hesitated for a second before walking over to him, holding him tightly. The young couple stayed in the embrace for a while as the rest of the world seemed to vanish around them. The only thing that mattered was them.
"You been getting better?" She asks, pulling away slightly to be able to see his face. He definitely looked a lot better than from the video Sam had shown her, his skin now that lovely honey colour he normally was, instead of that painful pale he portrayedin the video. His hair hidden under the grey beanie seemed to be cut, compared to the dishevelled look he sported in the video, not to say she didn't like his messy hair, but the neatly slicked back hair was his go to, so it felt more normal to her.
"... yeah." He replies, hesitating a little and poking his cheek with his tongue, a tail tale sign he was lying. However, Y/N dismissed it and just nodded her head, not wanting to push him to talk just yet.
"You been doing good?" He asks, lifting a hand to brush some of her hair out of her face.
"I guess. Me and Sam finally moved in together." She says, looking back at Sam and Chris seeing Sam smile at the two, while Chris just looked cold.
"When you gonna install some cell towers up here? I'm getting withdrawals already." Chris says, pulling his phone out to see if he could get any bars. Josh is the first to pull anyway from the hug, keeping his arm draped over her shoulders, though not wanting her to wander to far from his side.
"You got a spare million lying around, and I'll fix you right up." Josh jokes, as they walk the rest of the way up.
"Funny, you should say that... Ah, I think I left it in my other jacket." Chris jokes, patting his pockets.
"Oops."
Matt and Ashley come into view, as does the lodge. They don't seem to be talking, and Matt looks pissed.
"Hey guys... Get up here, okay?" Josh asks, waving at two of the youngest in the group.
"Yeah... well, more or less. But it's so good to see you!." Ashley says, hugging her knees to her chest to keep warm, whilst Matt doesn't reply, just nods his head.
" 'Sup with him?" Josh leans down to ask Y/N, who shrugs her shoulders.
"Yo yo yo! Are we gonna get things moving up here or what?" Chris asks, stepping into view of the couple.
"Yeah, man!" Josh exclaims, dragging his girlfriend with them up the stairs to the door.
"So Matt and Emily are a thing now, right?" Chris says, trying to spark a conversation.
"Yeah, so it seems." Josh says, letting go of Y/N and trying the door
"I mean, what's Mike think of that?"
"I have a feeling Mike's already got his hands full... you know what I mean?"
"Yeah, he's with Jess now, remember." Y/N comments leaning against the wooden fence as she watches the two boys struggle with the lock
"Hey... you doin' alright? I mean, it must be really tough without your sis -" Chris starts clearly worried for his friend
"Stop." Josh dismisses
"I just meant that -"
"No, I know what you meant. You know, seriously, I'm over it, and I just want us to have a really good time, you know? Like we always used to." Josh finishes, patting his shoulder before trying the lock again. She could feel the slight tension in the air.
"Dammit... This freaking thing..." Josh blurts frustrated.
"Is it iced?" Y/N asks, placing her hand on his arm before having a look at the lock itself using her phone torch.
"Maybe there's another way in." Chris offers, standing behind them as they fiddle with the lock.
"If this is iced, then the others will be too." Y/N mumbled, seeing frost in the lock, confirming their thoughts.
"Plus, they'd all be locked." Josh adds, turning to face Chris.
"There's gotta be, like, a window round the corner we can get, like, "get open" or something." Chris mentions, stepping back a little to see if there was a window open or not.
"Wait a second, are you saying we should break in?" Josh asks
"I don't think it's technically breaking in if you own the place, right?" Chris quoted.
"Hey. Not if I don't report you."
"Umm..." Chris hums seemly nervous now.
"Lead the way, Cochise." Josh instructed, lacing his hand with Y/N's. Chris sighed, turning to walk down the steps, stopping by Ash to catch up quickly, leaving Y/N and Josh to wait to the side.
