What does it mean to truly know something? To grasp the subtle pull of a truth that tugs at you just beyond your reach, its shape never fully formed? We mistake persistence for progress. We mistake survival for victory. We cling to the illusion that endurance equals success, but as we hold on longer, we lose the will to move at all. The more we survive, the more we forget how to live, and in forgetting, we lose everything that made survival worth it. We chase answers, hoping to close the gap, but each step brings us further into a fog where clarity remains as distant as the horizon. And yet we press forward, believing that the pursuit itself holds meaning. But does it? We spend our lives believing that understanding is just a matter of time - that with enough effort, we'll unlock whatever truths are hidden beneath the surface. But truth doesn't work that way. It doesn't reveal itself to the patient or the persistent. It waits, silent and distant, until you're no longer looking for it, and when you finally realize it's there, it's already changed everything.

I THOUGHT I UNDERSTOOD how it worked.

How people worked.

I built my world around calculations - patterns, motives, the slight flicker in someone's gaze before they lied. I studied how their expressions faltered before they caught themselves, the way their words hesitated just long enough to betray them. Every glance, every pause, every weight shift was a piece of a larger equation, and I had spent my entire life solving it.

I was convinced that if I could predict the moves and see them clearly, I could stay ahead.

I was wrong.

The last thing I remember before the world went dark was the sound of my heartbeat - sharp, frantic, louder than it had ever been. A rhythm I had never paid attention to until that moment when there was nothing else left to hear. Not the voices, not the rules, not the game I thought I was playing. Just that hollow, uneven pulse hammering out the truth I had ignored for too long.
