era: debut

It was getting dark and Taylor was lying on the cold wet grass by the lake, hoping you'd come. She waited twenty minute, still no calls on her phone... the sixteen year old was slowly losing hope, but a part of her had a feeling you'd be here any moment now, all she had to do was stay and wait.

You were driving in your pickup truck, playing Tim McGraw's songs on the radio, 'it's your love' was the song you and Taylor would listen to in the car, sometimes she'd play the song as a dedication to you.

You arrived at the lake, seeing her lying on the cold hard ground staring at the sky. She wore an orange vest and faded blue jeans, you walked towards her and she stood up, looking into your eyes.

"You came!" she exclaimed, running and jumping into your arms, you caught her then spun her around before putting her down.

"Of course I did!" You looked down at her, she was only about two or three inches shorter than you, but you always make the height difference seem bigger.

The sky turned pitch black and you were still by the lake together, she kissed you on the cheek, wrapping her arms around your waist and burying her face into your shoulder.

You two laid on the back of your truck and admired the stars before you caught her staring at you smiling, she grabbed your hand and placed it in hers, fitting together perfectly.

"I love you y/n/n"

"I love you too Tay"

You opened the door for Taylor, letting her in the front of the truck first, then you got in the driver's seat.

"Your house or mine?" You asked, brushing her hair back with your fingertips.

"Yours." She responded, resting her head on your shoulder as you start driving.

You two entered the house giggling and kissing each other before entering your bedroom, falling asleep half an hour later.

Taylor woke up from her nap, she didn't realise she was still by the lake, she thought what she had dreamt about was true, maybe you were on your way to her, but you weren't. She had to accept the fact you both broke up three months ago, she didn't know how to move on. She still had those dreams that you were getting back together, you had moved on with your new partner and she stayed in the same place where you had broken up with her.

You walked back to your house after a date with your partner, you found an envelope by your doorstep in familiar handwriting, saying 'Y/N.'

You opened the envelope and found a letter.

Dear Y/N,

I know it's been three months, but I just can't get over you. I miss your laugh, your smile, your voice, your beautiful eyes, and how well you treated me. I'm not sure if you're reading this, I know you have a talent of memorising people's handwriting, I always loved how well you memorise things.

If you ever need me, call me, even if it's just as friends, I think I'll be okay with that. You have no idea how lucky your partner is to have you, I hope you know that I'll always love you, maybe in another life we'd stay together, if not this one.

I love you.

Taylor.

You read the letter, tears filling your eyes. You were in love with someone new, but you wanted to fall back in love with her. She was perfect, you broke up with her because you couldn't handle the public attention she was starting to get. You agreed you'd stay friends, but even that's hard.

She was still right where you left her.
