The crowd was flowing smoothly today, slow and predictable. Easy marks. I shifted quickly, my fingers quickly sneaking into a man's coat pocket. Another wallet, another good meal. I smiled at the thought of my siblings enjoying a nice meal before quickly turning my focus towards my heist. I needed to make sure my every move goes exactly the way I need them to. Then, I happened to lock my eyes on someone-He laughed and shined like he belonged in a fancy painting. I subconsciously rolled my eyes before moving closer to him. Nobody is that perfect.

He was holding a few plastic bags filled with lunchboxes. This could be my chance-If I steal this... I'd be able to supply my siblings with food for decades. I stepped behind him, following the crowd before trying to reach into his pocket, but before I knew it-He wasn't in front of me anymore. I looked around in a state of panic before turning around to see him standing behind me, his tall figure standing over me. He seemed to be smiling-what was that about? He grabbed my hand and dragged me away from the crowd and into a nearby alleyway on the side of the road.

He pins me against the wall, keeping me cornered and unable to run away. I glare at him before speaking.
"Hey. What gives?" I say, making sure to keep my mask on so that he doesn't get a glimpse of my face- that would get me in huge trouble.

"I know you were trying to steal my wallet, luckily for me, I have super speed, and unluckily for you, you didn't see that coming, did you?" He said quietly, his face looking more serious, maybe this dude is a bigger deal than I thought. I pushed him away from me.
"Why are you doing this?" he calls out, his voice sharp but curious. I keep walking, not bothering to turn around. "That's none of your business," I snap back. I hear him sigh, and it's not just frustration-it's something else, something quieter. I glance over my shoulder, and he's standing there, staring at me like he's trying to figure me out.
"Don't let me catch you again," he says, but the warning feels soft, like he doesn't really mean it. I take off running, my chest tight. I didn't look back, and I didn't bother to stick around to decipher it. I bolted, my pulse racing-not from fear, but from something I can't quite name. Even as I run, I can feel his eyes on me, like he's already decided this isn't the last time we'll cross paths. I better be careful.

I made it back to my home and took my shoes off outside the house. I opened the door and stepped in.
"I'm home-" I barely got the words out before my twin siblings ran toward me, giggling and wrapping themselves around my legs. I laughed, crouching down to their level and pulling them into a big hug.
"Hey, guys... sorry I was gone for a bit," I said gently, crouching down to their level. "Big brother ran into a little problem, but don't worry-it's all sorted out now." I ruffled their hair, smiling softly before standing up and heading to the dining table.
"I brought something for you," I added, setting down the bags carefully. "I had just enough to get you both something special-bento kits. Come on, dig in." I watched as their eyes lit up. They rushed to the table, tearing into the meals with excitement. I watched them eat, a warmth filling my chest. Making sure they were okay was worth everything.
