Chapter 1~
The sun is not shining, and the rain is pelting against the roof hard. It's another cold, miserable morning, and the incessant buzzing of my alarm clock has woke me from my cozy slumber. Now that it is winter the days are long, dark, and oh so colder. After forcing myself out of my bed, I rush into the small bathroom that's attached to my room and turn the shower onto the hottest setting I can to try to keep some of the warmth in my body.
After quickly showering and doing my day-to-day routine, face care, and brushing my teeth I shuffle back into my room scouting out clothes for the day. I settle on a pair of black flared pants which hug my body like a second skin and find a washed-out bleached stained t-shirt that covers all the important parts of myself. Trying to find socks that aren't falling apart is the hard part but I luckily manage to spot a pair and shove my feet into them as I one-handed run the brush through my bird's nest of hair, not even bothering to attempt with the straighteners so I find a clean beanie and pop it on.
The big girl part of my brain remembered to charge my phone the night before so I unplugged it from the wire, scanned for my essentials for the long day ahead, and rushed out of my room, making sure to lock it up before jogging down the stairs, grabbing a black hoodie and my black puffer coat slipping them on so I look like an overcooked marshmallow in all my layers.
Once I'm outside I instantly regret ever leaving my bed or even just waking up for another long, drag of a day knowing I have three important places to be. The child in me wants to stomp my feet and pout refusing to be an adult but I quieten her with the promise of a hot chocolate and an iced donut from my place of work later on. First things first I need to take a trip to see my mother who is currently being looked after in a care home after she went mute and started forgetting those around her, she's not herself anymore but I still want to try and make things as simple and routine for her as they were a few years back.
After hopping onto a bus I pay and take the closest seat by the window not wanting anyone to pay me any attention, i don't need socialising this early, especially before a hot cup of tea. I rush off the bus as it stops a road away from the care home and bid the driver thanks, bye, bracing myself against the rush of wind that is so cold as I breathe out my breath appears in front of me. This weather is criminal and it should be illegal to leave the house in these conditions. Why can't we all stay home, warm, drinking hot tea huddled in blankets and a good book all day instead of work?
Once outside the main entrance of the care home I press the intercom buzzer waiting for someone to answer, usually Joanna clocked in at this time, she is my mother's main carer and basically a second mother to me, always helps if I need a little extra cash or even just someone to vent to from time to time.
The noise of the intercom going off shook me out of my thoughts as I welcomed Joanna's pleasant voice.
"Hi, this is Sinclair Housing, how may I help today." her welcoming voice echos into the frosty air.
Clearing my dry throat before I reply,
"Hey Jo, it's me" I mumble back, knowing I don't need to state my name since she will instantly recognize my voice.
She doesn't reply back but instead, I hear the door start clicking indicating it's open for a short period before automatically locking itself again as a safety precaution.
I pull the heavyset door open and I'm instantly hit by the warmth that comes with inside, i walk past the small plastic window sending Jo a small wave before signing in with my name and signature and opening another door which is less heavy than the first, the hallways are quiet as most people here are either still asleep or in the main hall having breakfast.
