(Simulated) 2009, City
Neo, now living as Thomas Anderson, works at a respected corporation specializing in software development. One day, he overhears his colleague Bob talking about a hacker named "Trinity" who breached the U.S. government's taxpayer database (IRS D-base).
Neo (looking at Bob's monitor): They still haven't caught him?
Bob: No, but they're getting close. I'd really like to see who this guy is.
The two get up, step away from the computer, and walk toward the elevator.
Neo: Me too, but I doubt we'll ever find out.
Just before the doors close, a woman enters. When she gets off, Neo can't help but be amazed. Bob agrees with him. The woman they saw was Trinity.
Bob: Tomas, You look tired. You have horrible bags under your eyes.
Neo: You know what...
Bob: I know, you need to unwind. I'll invite you over sometime...
After returning to the simulation, Neo lives a normal life. Hacking remains his passion, but he no longer seeks answers to "what is the Matrix" as intensely as before. However, he continues to have strange dreams, which always end with an unusual light. Many of these dreams are traumatic and difficult to comprehend.
Trinity, after being placed back into the simulation, leads a double life. One part of her life is mundane and routine—she works at the same company as Thomas Anderson. The other part involves active hacking activities under the alias "Trinity." Like Neo, she experiences strange dreams she cannot explain. Over time, she begins to notice that something about the world around her isn't right and decides to search for Morpheus.
One evening, Trinity is waiting for her food and gazing at her reflection in the mirror. In the reflection, she notices her computer and the text on the terminal.
Terminal (readout on the mirror):
"Matrix is watching you..."
"You need to hurry..."
"The key is the cookie... ding dong."
At that moment, the doorbell rings. Trinity freezes for a moment, then walks to the door. It's the delivery guy with Chinese food. Inside the package is a fortune cookie. She breaks it open and finds a slip of paper with an address.
Trinity (whispering): Morpheus...
The next evening, agents and police show up in front of her building. The phone rings:
Morpheus: Listen carefully. You need to run. They already know.
Trinity: What should I do?
Morpheus: Exit through the window...
Trinity: What?
Morpheus: Exit through the window and jump onto the roof of the neighboring building. I've sent you support...
Trinity: What? You must be crazy!
Something disconnects.
Trinity grabs her phone and leaves her apartment, jumping onto the roof of the neighboring building. But there, agents are waiting for her. Trinity witnesses a fight between Chiron and the agents. She's impressed by his speed. They meet and begin their escape together. What shocks Trinity is the fact that he easily dodges attacks and makes split-second decisions. Had she never done that before? They manage to escape.
